Cant comment on effectiveness of Surge - never used it. But it does look too expensive for me i have had a look on the web and a UK supplier has a 10 serving tub priced at $85.72, ($8.5/or ?3.50 a serving)
That is too pricey for me. Although i am aware generally us Brits get shafted when it comes to supplement prices. Looks like i’ll be sticking to the good ol Glucose n Protein PWO ![]()
To butcher a quote from Tommy Boy:
“hmm, $20 for Surge, maybe instead I’ll spend it on the WHORE!!”
It’s all a matter of priorities. If PWO nutrition is important to you (as it should be to any regular readers here) then 2 dollars per serving for the most chemically/metabolically perfect mixture ever created by man seems more like it’s too expensive for Biotest than the consumer. You all must be doing your own janitor work down there in the springs!!

Let me add something else here. Subtract NOTHING from what you pay for Surge… Perhaps the quality of information given is an attempt to keep ALL of us closer to the company and its products? Let’s not be too naive and suggest the ONLY reason for this website, this forum, this information is because “they” just want to help everyone in the world understand training and nutrition.

Perhaps??? That’s exactly the reason.
There’s nothing covert about T-mag; They have never tried to hide/mask the business intentions of this website.
Doesn’t bother me a bit. With access to large amounts of free advice from people like Thibaudeau,Waterbury, Barr, Berardi, Lowery etc. I can handle the Biotest ads…heck when I can afford to I’ll even try some of their supps too.
Well, I don’t think Surge is expensive at all. Most other protien powders in the downtown Toronto area are the same price for shite.
The listed prices is 39.99 for a 2 lbs tubski. Very comparable. I realize for heavier guys that this means consuming mroe of the stuff. I remember reading a while ago about cutting half Surge and half regular protein. I know this throws the ratios off, but if you really had to save that much money then you would do what is necessary to make er last.
Now, as far as the price goes in Ontario. Your not really looking hard enough to find good deals. I think 39.99 with a 5% discount just for being a gym member is 43 dollars. I know that’s not a large savings, but it is.
Now, if us Canucks got smart, at least the ones in downtown we could pool our funds, get a supplement monkey to order directly from the site, meet in one location and split up the goods. I know in the ONtario T-cell alone there are about 10 or so guys. If we all consume Surge then that’s 10 jugs. Not to mention the add ons we could toss in. We’d be well over 200 dollars to qualify for the free shipping, and the exchange rate is not that huge that it’ll make a big difference to the unit cost.
If we all get serious about this and PM each other, we could benefit greatly. It would just take some trust of course between members. I regularly talk to about 4 of the guys in Toronto and between us we could likely get the order taken care of.
Anyways, Surge is great. Love the taste, love the difference in recoveries, etc.
Berardi’s a good dude, too bad he had to move away to warmer climates. I just think he struck out with all those Ryerson Chicks and that’s why he had to go to “easier” lands.
Cheers,

Surge is the bomb!
I’ve used it since it came out, and back then, it wasn’t so cheap, even through other retailers that sold Biotest products, it was still $25/container after all the discounts. Now that it’s available through T-Nation only, it’s the best deal around.
I can’t train without it. I have, and it sucked! It’s a daily part of my nutrition/training.
Not to mention that I always place orders for more than $150 so I can get free shipping. All I usually order is 2-4 containers of Low-Carb Grow!, 2-4 containers of Surge and some ZMA if I’m running low! Do this every few months, and I’m set.
All I can say is I know plenty of guys who say Surge is expensive but will drop nine bucks for a martini without even flinching.
I currently mix whey with Gaterade for my PWO shake. With Surge, do you mix the same way? Do most of you mix Surge with Gatorade?
I basically do what JB said except I only use the hydrolyzed whey (sometimes chocolate whey isolate), dextrose, and malto. And some fat free, sugar free chocolate jello powder (sometimes). They whey already has a lot of glutatmine, BCAAs etc… Not sure if it’s as much as Surge. But they are all in there. I recover very well. I probably will try Surge soon, though, and see if it makes a difference for me.

You wouldn’t really want to. Surge already has the carbs in it. I believe in a 2:1 ratio to protein. But I could be wrong about this. I like to use a 3:1 ratio when bulking. I guess you could add a little gatorade powder if you want more carbs. I think JB would tell you though that Surge’s ratio is perfectly formulated whether bulking, maintaining, or cutting.

How does it taste just mixed with water? I hope not like ON whey with just water. YUCK!!
i’ve tried a home brew and it tastes disgusting even with all the dextrose. The number one supplement on the market is Surge. laters pk

I use my own mix that I mentioned so far. But Surge is supposed to taste very good. Remember, it has d glucose, maltodextrin, and sweetener (sucralose) already in it. People love the taste of Surge!
I’ve been a student ever since I found T-Nation, and will be one another 3 yrs b/c of law school. The only two supplements I buy even when my budget is stretched thin at the end of the semester are Surge and ZMA. Solid PWO nutrition and a good night’s sleep are just too important to me.

Indeed. I was using it strictly during/after weight training, but since I started using it for martial arts as well, I feel ten times better.
I used Surge when it first came out for several months - I did like it. I now use WPC because of price mixed with NOW brand carbs, mostly pre-workout. Too many other factors at play to say if my results have suffered.
Maybe JB or DB can clear this up:
The reason why I changed was because I believe that the seminal research out of Tipton’s lab was based experient participants that had fasted for 6 hours. Now with a bolus of digesting food from previous meal (less than 3 hours): A. There should already be amino acids coursing through bloodstream and B. Any difference between Hydro + AA and WPC can be counteracted by feeding pre-workout to hit the window.
If money were no object and convenience was the most important thing, I would definitely purchase Surge before any other supplement available on the market today (not including protein as MRP).

Surge tastes, well, pretty damn good.
Most people report, myself included, that it has a taste that hints of angel food cake. Others just say it tastes good. ![]()
There are some people who don’t like it at first, but after trying it a couple of times, convert over to the “lovin’ it” camp.
Also, it should be noted that some people have a more sensitive taste and notice some of the whey hydroslate flavor coming through. But Biotest did a dang good job of masking the hydroslate, which tastes absolutely horrid by itself.
You can also play around with the amount of water you use to get different flavors (varying degrees of sweetness).
The only way to really know is to try it. If you don’t like it, at first, try a few more shakes. It’ll grow on you. ![]()
I always make sure to have 5-6 tubs of Surge in the 'ol supp closet. I’ve gotten spoiled with its benefits and would rather spend the $$$ on Surge than non-essential crap.

HOW THE HELL is Surge expensive? These idiots must not have been around when it first came out. From then untill Biotest went to direct sales, it was over $50 USD for a jug. FIFTY FRIGGIN’ DOLLARS! What a bunch of whiners.
Yes agreed as a fellow Canadian I have a hard time with all these articles that just say “Yep Surge is the best… yep just get Surge”.
I was going to order about $150 worth of Biotest products and shipping came to $40… and this is to just outside Toronto so basically shipping to Canada does not get cheaper than that…
I think the answer would be either:
a) Provide distributor(s) for a few major Canadian places, or;
b) it would be awesome to get some local expert advice on a good Surge alternative, ie. imagine a world with no Surge and you had to buy another MRP/shake product…
