Supps That Actually Help Joint Pain

im relatively weary on takin supps, but ive been experiencing a lot of pain in my right knee. im training as a boxer; im running twice a day/6 days a week (its my weakness, so im hitting it hard) and do conditioning and drills 4 days a week. i also spar once a week, sometimes more. i have strong legs, but my right knee seems to be taking damage or something. the only other supps i take are glutamine, and omega 3-6-9. ive heard of glucosamine and chondrioten (sp?) but id rather not drop 20$ on another supplement that does nothing. any experience/advice will be greatly appreciated.

I’ve had 4 knee surgeries (2 ACL reconstructions, 1 each knee. 1 medial meniscus repair. 1 meniscosipy). All of my injuries have come from basketball. I am still very active and athletic. I still play ball 2-3 times a week. I weightlift (heavy squats) all the time. My knees have always ached or been “uncomfortable”.

Im currently taking 30grams of fish oil daily (partly from the advice of this site and partly from self experimenting). I started with 6 grams daily and worked my way up. Anyway, my knees don’t bother me anymore. There are some days I wake up and they feel sore, but honestly, most of the time, im pain free.

I currently take Chondroitin and Glucosamine and they work very well in preventing joint pain. I couldn’t lift with the intensity I do without them. I don’t have knee issues (knock on wood) but my elbow and shoulders tend to act up when I’m not taking the combo.

Worth the money!!

Flameout bro, give it a try!

D

As has been mentioned, fish oil is good for reducing joint pain plus a whole lot of other benefits. Try to get one that’s higher in DHA (like Flameout).

Glucosamine, MSM and fish oil have worked wonders for my knees. I’ve also quit doing leg extensions and leg curls.

Try Cissus by PrimaForce.

It has been used to treat joint and tendon pain in India for hundreds of years. I had elbow pain and it was gone in 2 weeks!

Cheers,

BJM

You’re basically asking for testimonials, and for any supplement you’re going to find a bunch of people who swear by it, and a bunch who found it was useless.

Here’s a great quote on the matter - “The plural of anecdote is not data.” - Roger Brinner. Anyway, look it up, and see what you find, and post it here. I seem to consistently read that Chondroitin and Glucosamine is useless for joints, and that fish oil is great. CLA is good too, which is also in Flameout.

EDIT : If you’re actively damaging your knee by running or training or whatever, no amount of fish oil will undo that, so find out what’s going on before it gets worse.

fish oil and an anti-inflammatory diet

Good info. on Glucosamine and Chondroitin.

I found fish oil in mass amounts has helped my joints more than Glucosamine + Chondroiton ever did.

whats that(anti-inflammatory diet)?

also, ive been eating fish oil regurlarly and that worked before i started running. i have CLA and im wondering how thats supposed to help joints… link? info?

also, i recently ran out of fish oil caps and i grabbed the omega 3-6-9 kind this time. the other one i had before was just omega 3. i cant imagine much of a difference, but someone mentioned getting specifically high DHA or something like that.

Use this link, it works wonders.

I use Flameout, Udo’s Choice DHA, and Krill Oil. I also take Knox brand gelatine with Glucosamine, Chondroitin and MSM. I dropped the Knox last month when I ran out and added Animal Flex (cheaper than Knox but no gelatine). I figured that the Animal Flex, along with everything else, would do the trick.

I noticed after a week that my knee was hurting again - although not to the level it had prior to me supplementing for the condition. I waited another week and it continued to have a slight pain every day. I added the Knox back to my supplement routine and after 3 or 4 days I was back to normal. My guess is that the gelatine really helps.

It’s actually the EPA in fish oil that helps with joint pain. Try curcumin, its derived from turmeric and acts as an anti inflammatory.

thanks for the info. ill load up on the fish oil, take twice what ive been takin. id imagine it’ll take a couple days to feel the effects, so i’ll get back to ya.

a diet that is net anti-inflammatory

there’s been a system devised to calculate the inflammatory and anti-inflammatory contributions of whole foods (and various junk foods)

you can see it at nutritondata.com

for example onions are strongly anti-inflammatory because of the sulforaphanes and vitamin C while oats are moderately to strongly inflammatory because of the carb and omega 6 content

I’m guessing it will take a couple of weeks to have any noticeable affect. Just personal experience, nothing scientific.

I have been taking it a couple years. I never noticed when my joints started to feel better but when I don’t take it for a few days they start to feel worse.
