Hi everybody. I’m a football player in school and part of a wrestling club as well, so my body takes a decent amount of punishment any given week (or enough for me anyway, haha). I wanted to know what supplements and dietary advice you guys and gals would recommend to achieve the following:
*Reduce muscle soreness/stiffness
*Keep joints and soft-tissues healthy
*Increase “strength” (not the word I’m searching for, but oh well) of joints and soft-tissues.
At the moment I don’t have any issues other than my right kneecap is a tad tender sometimes doing squat movements until it is thoroughly warmed-up, but I’m seeking prevention more than anything else. I want to keep my body as healthy as possible in spite of what I put it through so it will hopefully be kind to me down the road. I’m looking for as comprehensive of a plan as you can think of.
I currently use 17g of fish oil daily (standard capsules), around 4g of CLA (as far as actual CLA content, not total fat content in the capsules), generic multi-vitamin 2-3 days per day, and that’s it as far as things that might be anti-inflammatory etc.
I know there is Glucosamine and Chondrotin. I’ve heard mixed reviews on MSN. Also I’ve seen Tumeric recommended. What else would be good?
fish oils are the big one, I’d say. I’ve heard Glucosamine and Chondroitin can affect leanness, I forget through what pathway, though. Are you taking Flameout, or the cheap stuff? Cause the fish oil itself isn’t necessarily anti inflam; it’s the EPA/DHA content. The generic stuff you can get at supp stores, from what I’ve seen, have really poor EPA/DHA content. If you can afford it, I’d go for Flameout or, if you’re on a tighter budget, some stuff from iherb.com
Yeah just generic fish oil at a high-dose right now. Ordered some Flameout not too long ago, just waiting for it.
Would love some more opinions on the other choices beyond the fish oils. Really curious about tumeric and other herbs, as well as MSM, Hyaluronic Acid, collagen, and Bromelain.
If you’re taking 17g of fishoil daily already you shouldn’t have you worry about joint pains down the road. Glucosamine and Chondrotin are for old crippled people.
Hmmm yeah. I just worry about the toll of the athletics and weight training on my joints etc, not to mention that between football and wrestling I get knocked around a lot physically.
So are fish oils the be-all end-all for fighting inflammation and supporting joints etc? That’s the impression I’m getting. If that’s the case it will save me a lot of money.

you’ll be fine with generic fish oil at high doses. Glucosamine and Chondroiten are magical in my opinion. Fish oil is great too, but Glucosamine/Chondroitan take the cake hands down.
I know several professional and retired professional athletes (cycling and speed skating) that use Bromelain and Tumeric and even swear it beats fish oil. That’s all I can tell you about the two - I have not used them myself.
