I’m approx 225 , eat 250 g protein a day, workout 5 days a week and my blood protein levels are on the lower side.
Any recommendations for supplements to absorb more protein/nutrients?

What are you eating to get 250g of protein a day? It could be less a supplement issue and more something interfering with digestion/absorption.
Hi, thanks for taking my question .
I’m eating about 300 to 350g of chicken, sometimes mixing in 100g of ground beef with say 250g of chicken for that day.
The rest comes from 100g oats, approx 60g protein isolate, approx 25 from rice (approx 5-6 cups cooked rice a day)
Is that your diet in it’s entirety, or were you only listing foods with protein?
I incorporate approx 30g peanut butter, 2 cups approx 2% milk, some greens, apples etc, olive oils, bananas, some carb powder (approx 30g worth of carbs, 125 cals)
The oats and the peanut butter are something I’d consider eliminating, as far as gut health goes. It may be worth looking into something like Stan Efferding’s vertical diet, for a way to maximize your ability to absorb the nutrients you are eating.
I appreciate the help, my blood protein levels are still only at 6.5 out of a “normal range” of 6.9 to 7.4
Would you also recommend protease or any other digestive enzymes?
Thanks again
I’d look about adjusting my diet first to eliminate things that are causing poor digestion, rather than keeping those things in my diet and trying to combat them.
If, after that period of elimination, I still encountered issues, THEN I’d look toward supplementation.
Thanks again.
Is anything else going on health wise? Not to be gross, but anything out of the ordinary happening in the bathroom? Are your eGFR numbers in a good place?
Hi I apprecaite the question, to be honest I’ve never heard of or taken that test before, only simple panels or more involved panels for my TRT therapy. I haven’t noticed anything different in the bathroom.
Is your doc concerned about the your blood protein numbers?
Serum protein isn’t measuring intake or absorption. Your dietary intake has little effect on it. Your levels are not worth worrying over.
Do you have serious digestive issues?
The sun and sleep.
Im not being a smartass. It took me a long time to realize how important those two things are to every function of our bodies.
Hi, I haven’t mentioned anything to her, and she doens’t know of my heightend protein intake.
It just seems like with 225 plus grams a day i’d have at least a mid level reading of protein in my blood, instead of 6.5 out of a “normal” range of 6.9 to 7.4..
Hi Otay,
No digestive issues, I guess the main issue is I was with a professional trainer and made very little gains, i’m late 40’s, TEST levels close to 1000, and “bulking” after 3 months had virtually no gains.
and “bulking” after 3 months had virtually no gains.
How many calories were you eating, at what height and weight, and how much weight did you gain in those 3 months?
And what is your training like? Beyond just 5x a week.
Hello, Calories were at approx 4696, chest monday, back tuesday, legs wed, cardio R, shoulders fri, arms sat, cardio sunday. height 6’ weight 215 gained very little about a pound or two
Calories were at approx 4696
It’s unusual for someone to claim something is approximately something and then leave it specifically at 4696 vs 4695 or 4700. Could you provide a food log?
A 6’, 215lb male eating nearly 4700 calories every day without fail and only gaining 1lb in 3 months is definitely a medical oddity. Do you have a highly active lifestyle?
