Supplement Advice

Hi,

Last time I posted looking for some general advice and got some good responses.

An update: I’ve been training for just over 2 months now, and have put on more than 5 lbs of muscle in that time (i went from 130 to 135, i’m still easily over 10% - and it is not my goal to go down from that anytime soon)

I’ve been in the weight room around 3days/wk and do squats, deadlifts, lat pull down, dumbell bench (my form with the barbell has been bad), chin ups, and dips

i’m 21 and a full-time student

My question is this:

Most members at T-Nation seem to, in some degree, discourage beginners from using supplements. I see the merit in this, of course.

I have been taking Grow Whey 2x daily for around a month now, which has definitely increased my protein intake, and, adding some olive oil to the shake (can’t remember from whom on i here i got this idea) has also given me some boosts to my calorie intake.

I have been taking Surge post-workout, but i might discontinue this as it is expensive and I’m not 100% sure how to use it (and it doesn’t seem anyone on here is 100% sure after reading Barr’s articles).

Since I’m usually up late in the library or some other place working (i’m getting to my question) I often get involved in something to the point where I either cannot go back to my apartment and make a meal and am left with the options of take-out or delivery - which usually boils down to something expensive ($6-10) and unhealthy (pizza).

Also, i have read the article on here about eating on the go, and many others about this topic.

That said, I was considering buying some Metabolic Drive Complete in order to have something cheaper and more nutritious during these times, what are your thoughts?

Furthermore, I was looking at either Spike Shooter or Power Drive for the times when I go to the Gym and am mentally exhausted from other things. The other day I used red bull in this situation and the results were good, but it was expensive ($2.50/small can) and the effect didn’t last beyond my squats and deadlifts (about 15-20 minutes each). Which do you recommend?

Thanks.

p.s.
just because I’m asking these questions doesn’t mean I’m ignoring diet/nutrition

Yes IMO the addition of Metabolic Drive Complete is a great choice in the situation you list, or Metabolic Drive and some type of food say fruit or nuts.

Then yes also sure go for Power Drive, Spike, Or Spike Shooters to boost your w/o. Just keep the diet and training as priority but these will help IMO

I completely agree. It doesn’t sound like you’re really thinking about getting into any ‘serious’ supplements.

Metabolic Drive Complete is great, and I’ve heard many good things about Spike. I say give 'em both a shot.
