Super Strength DVD

I was thinking about ordering this DVD to see DeFranco’s warmup, see some of the lifts, and for some extra motivation. On DeFranco’s site it is about $10 more than on EliteFTS.com. However, on DeFranco’s site it says DVD and manual.

I’m wondering if the manual is not included in the Elite FTS version and, if not, whether it is worth the extra $10 to get it from Joe D. Anyone have a clue?

The DVD is good. Shows a lot of the exercises Joe does, but it is nothing ground breaking. Most of these manuals spit the same info out to you that you get everywhere else, but in different words.

Lift heavy and often

I purchased the dvd at a seminar, so it was only 25$. Its cool to take a look inside joe’s training, but he isn’t giving up any real secrets in there.

The manual is about 5 pages and just shows how he basically manipulates WS4SB for different scenarios / sports. Again nothing really ground breaking.

I’m not trying to hate on Joe D, as I love his stuff and appreciate his contributions to my knowledge base, but if you know WS4SB and you have a decent knowledge about training it’s not going to take you to a whole new level.

Hmmm, decisions, decisions…

Buy a legitimate Westside DVD or maybe an Elite FTS DVD or one of the Super Training “Never Enough” DVDs, or buy Defrancoe’s bastardized Westside I MEAN Westside for skinny bastards DVD and watch a bunch of athletes run through a second-rate rip-off of Westside training?

Tough choice…

I’ve seen the Defrancoe DVD and it’s nothing special. If you want to learn about Westside then buy a REAL Westside DVD. If you really want to know how Defrancoe trains his athletes then read his articles. If you want a good warm-up then buy Magnificent Mobility. If you want to see some motivating lifting videos, YouTube is free.

Wow, so not a lot of love for the DeFranco DVD. Guess that is good to know. Frankly, I’m not all that interested in real “Westside” at this point. I am more interested in building strength and athleticism. If my primary interest was doing powerlifting, I would definitely not think twice about getting a legitimate DVD from Elite FTS instead.

Also, I already have M2. It does show a lot of interesting mobility movements, but does not put together a structured program, which DeFranco’s allegedly does. I’ll have to give this more thought.

Elite sells the same DVD with the manual. Save the $10 and buy it there.

I liked the DeFranco DVD. I think it’s definitely a worthwhile purchase. No it is nothing “groundbreaking” but really what is groundbreaking? The “secret” to his success is not complex periodization schemes or high-tech biochemical monitoring, but instead focus on good “bang for the buck” exercise selection, proper progression and a ton of hard work and intensity. I think the DVD captures it perfectly. I would recommend purchasing it, especially if you plan to train athletes and not just yourself.

Completely agree with this … I did not mean to bash the dvd or Joe D if thats what it sounded like.

I just dont think that its going to be that useful to anyone who already knows what they are doing.

i got the dvd back when i played football and it helped me alot but that was before he had all the exercises and warmups on youtube. but now that i’m done with football i’m on the good old fashioned “unbastardized” westside.

Then email Cressey. I’ve never heard of anyone having a problem getting a hold of him. Just decide what you want to work on (specifically. “Increase ROM at the hip joint to counter my low back pain” not “get more flexible”) pick a few exercises and email him to see if there’s anything else he’d suggest.

Also I’m gonna disagree with fish_burps. I was very underwhelmed by the super training dvd. I know the exercises, there wasnt much in the way of training philosophy (except for the Aiches interview) … eh, not a BAD dvd, but the same stuff as before, just more expensive.
