Do they contain omega-3 fats?
Just wondering cause I eat saltless and raw seeds all day at work.

Sunflower seeds contain virtually no omega-3 FAs. The ratio of omega-6s to omega-3s in sunflower seeds is about 500:1
The abundance of sunflower, soybean and safflower oils in prepackaged foods shares the blame for the current Omega-3 deficiency in the country.
Most raw nuts and seeds contain more Omega-6’s than Omega-3’s. The exception is flaxseeds.
So stop eating them ALL day at work. A small handful once a day is good.
You can’t get better than fish oil for high Omega-3. Also grass-fed beef and bison also contain Omega-3, grain fed animals only have trace amounts.
Pumpkin seeds have a similar taste/texture. They’re not as good as flax for Omega 3/6 ratios but they’re up there. They also have a host of other benefits including prostate health.
Chia seeds are better than flax seeds.

Chia seeds have to be soaked in water first, and form a gelatinous goo. I guess you can mix them in with something in order to eat them, but I’d rather spread them on my chia pet.
Flax seeds just need to be ground, and taste better in my oatmeal.
Walnuts are a good source of nut derived Omega 3s.
Pumpkin seeds. They rock.
sunflower seeds are also an excellent source of vitamin E and magnesium.
i wouldn’t avoid them because of the omega-6 fats, just take your fish oil.
Nothing beats hemp seeds when it comes to optimal omega 3 ratio.
Man I used to love eatin’ good old Jim Beam flavored sun flower seeds at work but then I saw the sodium content…

Walnuts are a good source of plant based EFA’s however.

Sunflower seeds do contain selenium though, which ia a potent antioxidant and has been shown to slow the growth of certain cancers.[/quote]
If you want selenium (in its naturalest form) try eating raw organic Brazil nuts. Pound for pound, a couple a day will give you all the selenium you need for meeting your body’s needs.
