Sudden Weakness with Pushing Exercises

Having you been losing weight or are cutting? Are you gaining weight, bulking? Also antibiotics really whip you out even when you stop they are still in your system not to mention the infection itself.

Natural history for radiculopathy generally involves spontaneous recovery within 6 months, which is why surgery isn’t pushed by doctors and PTs

At the end of the day it was deemed cervical radiculopathy and I was sent to PT, no other information was gathered. It was assumed to be inflammation which the prednisone treated. I wish I had more info.

I had been maintaining for months at the time, currently I’m cutting. No antibiotics during that period, no infections that I knew of.

I all of a sudden I am also experiencing weakness in my left arm while pressing. I tried a lacrosse ball and have a good amount of pain in my lats. I think it is creating a stability issue, and my muscles won’t push as hard without stability. I’m just going to rest the pressing a bit, and apply pressure to the sore spots. Hopefully I’m back soon to pressing heavy.

How severe is the strength loss? Also, is the pain radiating down your left arm or more localized in the back?

My issue was inflammation in my cervical spine. It was treated with prednisone. I am 90% back to my old strength before the incident. I can’t believe this has been going on since October. On the bright side, I’m no longer in pain.

Maybe 20 percent. About a month ago I benched 385, today 275 felt really off and heavy. I think 315 would have been there though. It is recent to this week. Last week I did 4x5 with 315 no problem.

It doesn’t hurt, only when I pressed on the upper lat with a lacrosse ball did it hurt. I have had arm numbness in the past though. It isn’t pure numbness, it has an achy pain all through the arm. That was during benching only. When I would stop for twenty minutes it was fine. Iirc, that was with my right arm.

So the bar is beginning to collapse on your left side? My weakness was different. I literally could not command my left upper pec, left tricep and left anterior delt beyond maybe 10%. It was like the message just wasn’t being transmitted to push.

I think I’ve experienced the ache you described through your arm in the past, it was different. My pain was severe and constant about a month-and-a-half after the weakness appeared. I couldn’t think properly and I couldn’t sleep. I couldn’t drive or get comfortable in any position (standing, sitting, laying down) for a week straight, it was torture.

Probably what I will do, it at least have my chiropractor friend take a look. Felt better today, but didn’t do pushing, do who knows.

I put mine off, whole upper left side collapsed,no power.if it wasn’t for rack I’d be dead.put it off another 6-7 weeks muscle wasting in hand.
Ulner nerve pinched in elbow but had no power power in pec, front felt, tricep.
Ever hear ā€œsqueeze the bar tightā€transfers power…?well so true…
Again:!!: sudden loss off strength- Nerve issues, after a few weeks=muscle wasting
Don’t mess around…

Also had:carpal tunnel,nerve graph,tendon transfer(pic I posted)+ the Elbow…

Man that’s rough. I don’t think mine is anywhere that bad. As I said, I’ll rest the bench see the chiro.

Wow, that seriously sucks. How are you doing now?

You’ve just made me rethink getting a nerve study done. My strength is almost fully back but it took since October to return. Now I’m thinking one misstep and this could happen all over again, maybe worse.

I actually feel like I have numerous nerve issues going on simultaneously which have me a bit concerned. My left calf feels like there’s a piece of hair or string hanging from my shorts and touching me constantly, but there’s never anything there. I also have continuous pain radiating down from my upper left buttock to the back of my left knee. I’m thinking I have a glute medius injury, but with everything else going on maybe I should stop messing around.

Surgery just done 25 days ago from today, hopefully starting PT at end of month.doc says I’ll get 70% of hand strength back,DLing days are over.
I’m 56yrs,so play the hand your delt
I guess.don’t mess with nerves they die quick and don’t really come back!

Why?

Seems some straps would do the trick, right?

That’s what I was thinking.

We don’t know the whole story here with spavolik, but I see many get an injury and just stop going to the gym. Why does your injured pec stop you from doing safety bar squats? There is almost always something that can be done if one wants too.

That’s I asked why. Thinking there may be more to the story. If it’s only because of grip strength, there are definitely ways to work around that.
