I recently read an artical about nutrition timing that suggested drinking a diluted (with water)solution of glucose and whey protein during and after workout at a ratio of 2:1.
Is it ok to substitute the glucose with an equal weight of strawberries or other fruit mixed in via a blender? I ask because my wife is sensitive to sugar (possibly hypoglycemic). Any guidance will be appreciated.

Hi there,
First you should probably find out if she is infact hypoglycemic, by consulting a physician. In regards to the PWO nutrition, she could always have a meal that contains an adequate amount of carbs and protein for the time being- a shake isnt going to make or break her goals; especially if her diet is not in order (not sure if it is or isnt)
Post workout drinks use glucose because of how fast it digests. Fructose is very slow to digest in comparison to glucose.
However, if she has problems with sugar, you’d probably do best skipping the PWO drink entirely and replacing it with BCAAs.
Thank you for your response. We are pretty good about our diet. We are incorporating timing to maximize our diet.
Thank you for your response. I will look into the BCAA solution that you suggested. Do you think that even though fructose is slower to digest than glucose it would be much less effective as a PWO meal?
I have been using dextrose mixed with whey. Is there a more convenient source of glucose? Should I be afraid to use table sugar.
As said earlier, fructose is low glycemic.
You’d be best off doing a post workout whey protein shake with some glutamine. This is what I, including many other people, use on the AD. Glutamine will act as carbs.
You could throw in a banana or a bit of raw honey in there if you want.
Thanks again. I have lots to learn.
