Stuart McGill Books

Hi!

I’m currently “recovering” from a back injury (have been for nearly 3 months now), and I’ve finally realized that I have to educate myself about these things. I’ve been to two doctors and a physical therapist and nothing seems to be helping (I did have X-ray a few days ago so I should know more soon). So anyway, I’ve heard the authors of this site praise McGill’s work and I was wondering which of his books would be best for me?

There’s “Ultimate Back Fitness and Performance”, recommended by Eric Cressey and some others, but then there’s “Low Back Disorders: Evidence-based Prevention and Rehabilitation” which sounds like something I need more, but I really don’t know.

Basically, I just need information on how to fix low back problems and prevent them from happening in the future. I also need to learn the structures of lower back and how the whole thing works. Also, I realize the books are more for “professionals”, but they’re still useful for someone who’s REALLY willing to learn and take the time to study things, right?

Thanks!

nothing helped my lower back problems more than “Low Back Disorders: Evidence-based Prevention and Rehabilitation” , and i have tried everything the market has to offer.

i cant recommend it enough.

why not get both?

I’ve had numerous back problems. In terms of McGills’ books, I have both of them. Very much about theory, but provides some practical suggestions. So I recommend getting them

Another recommendation is that you search this site and pull every article/ posting on lower back injuries, prevention and treatment. I did this and made a file of the articles.

Good luck.

Thank you all!

The reason I can’t get both (right now) is money: each book costs ~60 USD not including shipping, and being a student that’s almost half of what I can spend per month. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ve done that and I’ve read a TON here, it has really helped me see things. I just want something a little more “professional” and more comprehensive now, hence the books.

So let me rephrase my question: which book would help me more now? I need to get my back fixed ASAP and I want the best bang for my buck. I can always upgrade my book collection later if I need to.

Now, I’m leaning towards “Low Back Disorders”, and “Ultimate Back Fitness and Performance” is unavailable at Amazon.com anyway, so what do you think?

$60 for a book? wow, that is pretty steep, especially being a student

Get both.
