Strongman Log!

Ive been lurk-reading here for a while and decided to finally say hello!

Sup! Cool log and some mental strength.

I notice you do way more front squatting than back, do you find this is better for strongman or is it a personal thing.

Also thanks for the help and advice on the other thread!

Thanks alot dude. In my opinion, front squats reign far superior to back squats in any athletic context because of thoracic extension and core integration. High bar back squats are pretty good too, but zerchers and fronts take the cake. Most strongmen will say the same, but there are personal exceptions.

I finally got around to cleaning out the 20", I plan on making a 350-360 sometime soon. The hole in the new slater molds are super tiny, my previous plan to put 2.5’s inside to increase the weight is foiled. What’s some goodassshityo I can put in the stone to make it heavier in 20lbs abundantly?

I have not been training sandbag/medley work with a purpose at ALL for this contest. Kind of a bummer, to be honest it was very difficult for me to do with my conditioning. Tomorrow’s going to include some brutal much needed sandbag work. Can’t wait.

Today was 8 hours of training. A test of mettle, but super fun. Can’t even walk my quads are cramping so much lol.

Tire/Farmers/Sandbag death medley (this fucking SUCKED!)
650x5/170 per hand/205x50’ easy enough
650x5/170 per hand/205x50’ good just some lousy picks, but feels swift
650x5/170 per hand/255x NOPE.jpeg 255 is packed super tight, the lap attempt failed when my hamstrings locked up. Strong enough plenty for this lap, walk isn’t too bad, I don’t know what it is.

Sandbag carries (mad about the bag, going to practice it by itself a bit)
255x lapped, but i’m not even sure what i did to lap this correctly, walk was good for about 50 feet!
255xfail
255xlapped and a good run. don’t know wtf i need to do to lap this bag. it’s so tall and skinny and HARD as concrete (pretty good arrangement of words right thurrrrrr)

More medley work
650x5/170 per hand/205x50’ getting really hard on cardio at this point
650x5/170 per hand/205x50’ good
650x5/170 per hand/205x50’, this pick was amazing, what I did was instead of standing it up and hugging it off the ground like a zercher, I just push this one over, rip it off the ground and catch it mid air. caught it supa high too, shit was easy and fast, albeit totally fried.

finished the workout with about 10 sets of 300lb tire drags (sled drag-esque) with chains.

pretty much the worst workout fucking ever. time to take 7 advils and ice bath god FUCK THE POLICE

THANK YOU VERY MUHC NOW GET OUT DA WAY DOGG ISS KISS

Of the top of my head putting lead shot through the mix would make it heavy as funk.

Can I buy really big diameter ones? That add a fuck ton of weight? Like 10 gauge buck shot sized ones? MMMMmmm I can just feel all the additional weight in my hands…OOOHOOHOOO

also where do i buy it?

Cement your spotters but into a stone and lift him over the bar!

I’ll do that later, but that’s a good idea dude thanks!

Made it to the gym today totally fucked from yesterdays session, but managed to get some heavy work in. I’m starting to really hate this fucking 10" log. I need a 12" so bad. I know I can press more on a 12.

Log press(out of rack)
165x5
215x3
255x1
275x1
305xf hehe that’s not happening!
260x5 PR for this weight, but totally fresh and not sore I’d have 8 in me for sure.

Strict log press
165x5
185x5
170x5,5
165x5

Seated DB Military (neutral grip log mimic)
55x5
70x5
100x5
80x5
70x5
70x5
70x4 miscounted
70x5
70x5 assisted on last rep

Face pulls
20x10,10,10 lower weight just to get bloodflow, really cant afford to have a sore upperback at this point lol

My training has been going well, but honestly I’m guilty of cheating myself in that I did not practice cleaning the log enough, nor have I got enough medley work/conditioning in. But yoke came along well, and my pressing strength is pretty fucking primed at this point, and stones are par. I’m far stronger than I ever have been, but this training was a bit sloppy and I need to do better. Once I finish this contest, I’m gonna hammer the fuck out of my weaknesses.

Found out the actual weight of the stones at my gym. The 285 that I couldn’t load this past summer was actually a 21 inch 345, and the big one is a 520lb 24 inch. The baby stone I broke in half cause I’m awesome is 205 and the other guy is 225 or so. They’re all like 7 years old though.

It’s a stone Adam used in training for the arnold I think. You can’t respect a 24" diameter stone until you see it in person. Damn thing comes up past my knees. Somehow it’s very clean of tacky…

Sorry dude I did type a reply about the lead shot but its disappeared!

I live pretty close to a bearing factory so I just wrote a nice letter and popped in a couple times and they donated a bunch to me (really fine stuff is best for filling DBs and stuff). You can buy reclaimed shot from fishing and hunting sites, but you are looking at $80 per 25lb, or more, I have no idea why it is so expensive on your side of the pond. Also, it is just an idea, ive never mixed shot with concrete so I’m not sure how itll work…

cool training man, getting my first stone this month, will probably moan to you when I cant figure it out!

Your pretty strong, man I don’t think your slacking in your training. One thing that’s weird to me is that I can db deated press 65s and 70s for around 8 or more reps but I can barely standing ohp 130 for more than three reps. WHAT THE FLUFF IS YOUR SECRETS!

Chances are when your doing Seated DB Press your leaning back just a bit into the Back Pad and are actually involving the upper chest alot more than in the Standing Military Press. Also when seated you can really push into the ground with your feet and get extra stability and power almost like in the Bench Press.

Could also be a sign your core is pretty weak and when standing you have zero base to press from where when seated the back pad would be artificially giving you a much bigger and solid base. Same happens to me. 225 for 5 seated is pretty doable but, with out a lot of lean back no way I can strict Press it that many reps.

Ah thanks Reed. I thought it was something like that, use of chest ,glutes legs or the angle of the press is more suitable for that muscle. I shall hit my core harder now though and keep working on it. OHP that is. Seeme like this lift just takes a long time to develop, Do you recommend stopping at the chin on standing presses?, I find it hard doing it from the chest.

Obviously do it from the chest.

lol, long way to go
