Strongman Log!

SOHP
135x5 feelsl ike crap
185x5 uglyyyy
185x4, probably only had a few more in me

no point strict pressing, the movement is so unbelievably weak from not training it in so long

Push Jerks
225x5
275x2 core is shaky but press is easy
275x2 actually shit talked the barbell it was so easy
315x1 nasty rep, wanted to hit it cleaner
315x1 a bit better but i’m still having to fight for a lockout. I should NOT be locking out with push jerks. I should be either punching it or not. Granted, I’m physically depleted today, so I can’t expect perfect reps.
315x1, better

Goal today is to practice getting better at heavy jerks. I wanna be able to hit 315 even on the worst of days.

Plyo Push ups
x5,5,5 out of steam

Incline DB
90x8,8,5,1,1,0,1

^I am not a bodybuilder

Knee is quite a bit better. I’m hoping to squat next week without doing anything stupid.

Dude who cares if you have to force your way through the lockout on a heavy push jerk. The fact that you can lock out 315 overhead regardless is badass.

9/25/13

Power Snatch
135x3,3
155x3
185x3
185x3
185x3

All pretty easy

Hang Power Snatch
135x20 done without putting the bar down, killed my grip, very hard set

Core Complex (was done like 3 times, no rest between exercises, but 30s-1 min rest between each complex)

front plank
x60s

DB side bend
25x15/15

frog crunch
x20

windmills
x20

Gonna start some coolio circuit training this week with light weights and BW stuff. The following week will begin my resurgence into heavy training again. I’m not sure how I’ll approach it, but I might do something CRAZAYYYY.

After my knee injury (a very small one), I kind of realized my training lately has been too aimed around getting stronger with gym lifts. It’s super hard for me to not want to do that, but I really need to hone my strongman skills. So we’ll how shit pans out. I really wanna rest up good so I can go hard this winter.

10/7/13

I repinched my sciatic nerve at work cutting curb all day bent over, which is strange. It’s not half as bad as the dilemma that happened pre-contest around may, but…it’s there. I noticed that it becomes worse when I stretch and roll my left piriformis (which wouldn’t make any sense, because apparently, stretching and rolling of that muscle will release the pressure on the nerve). Dunno, I’m gonna avoid stretching that glute for a bit. It’s healing quite well which is pretty KEWL.

Overhead Medley (axle, barbell, DB snatch both arms)
125x1/135x1/40x1
125x1/135x1/90x1 x4
185x1/180x1/100x1x2 this was hard
185x1/180x1/100x1 kind of hurt my back on the catch of the 185 clean on the barbell

The pain I’m experiencing in my lower back is only when standing and when I lumbar extend. It’s not there if I lumbar extend (stick my ass out) when bent over to deadlift, which is good I suppose. As we all know, I’m a pin cushion. I can complain all I want but the fact is, those who sow in flames, indeed in ashes they shall reap.

As I get more advanced in my training and learning my body, I find the window for my success becomes that much smaller, and in this instance, I recognize that the window this time was missed because I didn’t remember to be meticulous and tentative with my form, even with 185lbs. This recent rash of injuries have been experienced before, and all have been conquered and dealt with opening up avenues for more success in my pursuit. That’s the only hope I have -is my past perseverance and nothing more. My recent visit to the chiro made me realize my body is extremely fucked up, but I’m not alone. I look at people like Dmitry Klokov, Derek Poundstone, Ben Rice, and a couple others who have also went through hard times with injury and severe physiological hindrances, yet pushed on somehow. I could quit, and the small handful of people who seldom look over this log know that it might not have been a bad idea if I really did sometime in the past. I could have just gave up and tried crossfit. I would probably be good at it, with all this fucking grit. I’m too stubborn and refuse to become effete. I have let emotional and physical issues steer my life, but I feel we’re all running out of time. I’m tunnel visioned in on my pursuit, and I will continue to effloresce like I did once in the past. This is only a test.

What the hell are you moping about? Prioritize your recovery and smash weights.

<3!1 Absolutely!

I did some intense hamstring stretching tonight and it completely cured my nerve issue. It also alleviated some of my back pain. The back pain isn’t when I bend over, in fact it’s just when I stand. I think it was tweaked for a reason I’m still trying to figure out. Anyways, gonna focus on deadlifts and slowly trying to work into event stuff.

Night night don’t let the bed bugs bite.

10/8/13

FS pause
135x5x5

I did alot of post and pre-workout stretching.

10/13/13

225 BW, losing weight and I can feel it, bought some coconut oil and other good stuff, hoping to bump back up to a consistent 230

Deadlifts bar at 11.5 inches (1.5 inches over floor height, all sets double overhand until 455, 455 hook grip, 500 with straps)
135x5
225x5
315x5
405x1
455x1
500x4 first time straps, pretty outstanding of me to rep the shit out of this weight like it was nothing. I’m feeling some good things with my deadlift soon. I’ve adopted a much better pulling technique that I put off learning for a very long time. Attempted 5 but I would have had to mariusz hitch to finish it.

Bent Over Rows
135x20
185x10
205x10,10,10
drop set
155x15
135x15

Hip Thrusts w/ axle
125x8
215x8 hamstrings crampy…
305x5 hamstring cramp on 5th rep
385x4 these don’t feel good, haven’t done them in a while and I’m feeling a big pull in my right hamstring

shuttin er down

10/14/13

Push Jerks
135x5
225x3
275x3
315x0 form and flexibility is just gone because I’m obliterated from yesterdays deadlifts
315x1 again, content with being able to overhead 315 on the worst of days
225x8,8,8,8 first time doing rep work with push jerks in a while, these SMOKED my triceps

BTH Tri Ext w/ barbell
95x8
115x5x5

Delt complex

front raise
25x10/10,
15x10/10
15x10/10

side lat
25x10/10
15x10/10
15x10/10

inverted row
x10

Wouldn’t mind seeing a video of your jerks.

Something I have been wanting to do as of late is film a large portion of my training. I’m far too timid when it comes to social media. Also, I have never really watched myself lift, so it would be a great tool for me. Perhaps I will do that sometime soon.

10/19/13

227 this morning, fattying up perhaps

Yoke (first time since competition, or roughly)
270x100ft
450x100ft
belt on
540 (supposed to be 550 but misload) x 50ft
650x50ft, no drop and downhill. This was the contest weight and I had dropped it once then, so this is nice to have hit, albeit not the smartest move to just go to a near max yoke so suddenly.
510x50ft 10.2s, uphill
510x50ft 9.3s, downhill, faster but my form is sacrificed due to the slanted grade and me leaning forward
510x50ft 9.1s uphill, hauled ASS here

Tire/Sled Drag Medley in rain
650x50ft downhill/270x50ft stopped in this, not happy about it
650x50ft uphill/270x50ft no stop
650x50ft uphill/270x50ft couple of slips on the tire due to the impeding rain

First time doing strongman training in a while, happy about it although i’m feeling like i got hit by a bulldozer already. Sacrum is bugging me. WHOOP WHOOP.

10/19/13
