Strongman Log!

8/12/13

Had a really long work day and was malnourished so that coupled with the postponing of my event training from sat to sunday means I’m in no condition for a good heavy press workout, so I kept it light. Honestly didn’t even wanna train today. I had like two giant ass sodas on the way home like a fat fuck in attempt to assuage my extremely low blood sugar.

SOHP
45x stuff
135x20 conditioning with upper body is so low right now it SUCKS. 100% and a bit more conditioned I have 22-25 in me.

Overhead French Press
75x8
95x5
105x5
110x5
105x5
95x7, forced 2 more out after racking it
95x4
95x2,1 lol

Stupid delt circuit (all reps done stupidly slow, both hands same time): 10 front raises, 10 side lats, 10 bent over flyes
10x10/10/10
10x10/10/10

8/13/13

Deadlifts 2.5" deficit
45xstuff
135x10
225x8,8,8,8,8

Hip Thrusts w/ 2" axle
160x8,8,8,10,8

Lying HS Curl
x10,10,10
drop set and shit, hamstring cramps of joy etc.

Light day, but the volume sufficed. Post chain is just FRIEEEEEED.

275x10 Probably had 13-15 in me if I really fought for them. Easy set, just keeping the groove greased. Won’t be going heavy on fronts yet, gonna give it another couple weeks before I push to any major weight.

Events…in the RAIN

Stones

(Wet as FUCK. The stones are dusty as hell and tacky is negligible because of the rain and dirt caking to it.)

205x5 BUSTED IN TWO, BAM! Lil baby stone had it comin!

Decided to just do stone ext. because it’s too wet and I have to re-tacky on each fucking rep because of the horrible conditions.

Stone Extensions

240x8,5,4 meh tape is torn apart, tacky is gone, stones are wet…

275-285 COULDNT EVEN LAP IT LOL. The conditions are so bad and this stone is wonky and abnormally large for it’s weight so that lapping it is pretty much impossible for me.

Down to just 3 stones now, 240, 285, and 400. I’m kind of annoyed that 285 is so hard to lap atm. I know the conditions are horrible, but come on…it’s barely heavier than the 240 that is a joke to load. Who makes a 285lb stone as big as a 350 and wonkier than hell?

Yoke
270x100ft
360x60ft dont know why i loaded this weight on here, was supposed to be 450. Felt no diff than 270.
450x60ft
600x60ft felt ok
700x60ft this was really hard…dropped about 3-4 times, but did manage to get a stride on some walks. VERY HEAVY!

definitely enough for today, pretty big work load.

8/19/13

Push Jerks (reg bar, first push jerk session with reg bar in one year)
45x8
135x8
225x3 butta
275x3 VERY easy, and I mean that! The only issue here is the bar slides down a bit on the first bend, which is expected with a heavier weight…
315x3 PR!
275x6, not a PR, bar was just rolling all around in my hands. Wanted 8-10 but I’m very out of practice.

Skullcrushers
95x5 alot of elbow pain for the first time ever
135x3 called it here, aint go not bench presser triceps. You WIN CHRIS. For now…

BTH Tri Ext. (sat down on the floor with back up against 4 bumpers, had a handle-style 25lb plate with 25lbs of chains and 20 more pounds of chains attached to them, and rested the plate on the stack of bumpers behind me, and pause-extended them and REALLY blasted my triceps, this is one of the best ways I’ve discovered to overload lockout.)

x5,5,5,5 all very hard sets, some of these reps were so slow that I can safely say I have never grinded so hard for an assistance exercise until this one.

Crucifix hold (20lbs of plates, left hand had two tens, right had three fives, and two 2.5’s, the plates ended up pulling me down very similar to your KB’s Chris, so I think this was quite fair!)

x FORTY FIVE SECONDS

No video obviously because you trust me implicitly…

That’s 1-1, Chris. Next challenge?

Perhaps I call this challenge, eh?

Dude I don’t know of any other challenges that we can do. Start doing more strongman shit so we can have 1v1 competitions via T-Nation.

Deadlifts

Somehow I’m 225 bodyweight…

Double Pause Deadlifts off 3.5" deficit
135x8
225x5
275x5x5

Hip Thrusts w/ 2" axle (1-2 sec pause at top)
180x8,8,8,8

Lying HS curl
x10,10,10,10

GHR mod

The humidity is INSANE today. I can’t even explain how much I’m sweating.

FS
135x10
225x3 so easy! wow
275x3 misgrooved, whatevz
325x10, 10lb PR!

Pause Box Squat (11 inch box, close feet/deadlift stance)
185x5,5
275x3,3,3 little bit of back pain, nothing major, but expected to such a low box and close foot stance.

^^ lol the entire time doing the sets I thought it was 255 for some reason. Misloaded by 20lbs. OOPSIES.

Pull ups
x8
x8 stopped at 5 cause im using a barbell high up on the rack so it rolls and it’s really hard on my grip
x8
x8 stopped again 4-5 and took a 5-10 sec break, these are retard hard

DB rows- didn’t bother going more than 90s just because they felt like such crap
90x10
90x10
90x10
90x10

Planks of unbridled wrath

x60s these were just brutal, I normally don’t (can’t) push planks to complete failure, but on the last set I did. WOOOOOO

Events- feeling pretty horrible today. Not so much beat up but just nauseous and i’m overheating really bad and it’s not even hot out.

Tire
680x5,5,5

Loaded carry/Tire medley

150x100ft turn halfway/680x50ft felt like dying here

Iced my carotids and inner arms and stuff, feeling like i’m hungover but i dont even drink. was probably all the shitty chinese food i ate last night

150x100ft/680x50ft better as far as not feeling like death, but the tire flips just felt sluggish and from my sacrum

Removing the tire from the workout just because there’s no point doing an endurance medley with my condition atm.

Loaded Carry
200x100ft felt easy
200x100ft, horrible pick so the run was crap
200x100ft, felt great, pinched myself on the belt but good

smashed up my stone rash scab on my left arm, bleeding pretty good! YUM!

230x100ft good run
255x100ft man this sucked, planned on taking this for as much as possible but the implement was hurting my legs so bad frmo pushing into my upper thighs that i just had to put it down. good run regardless

DB clean and press for funsies (towel on the handle to emulate a thicker handle)
100x31 cleans and 31 presses, one for good luck. Had to run inside and put my head in the sink, overheated so bad.

^each rep had no more than 10 seconds of heaving in between. The last 5 reps were all done back to back, had to finish strong.

This day marked the final day of heavy training before I embark on my week off (or a deload depending on what i feel like doing) so that I can come back even stronger for the following week where I will begin a peaking cycle for front squats. I’m going to smoke 425 at the end of it, I can feel it. Will also climb up in weight on deadlifts, not by much, but a decent increase. As for overhead, I’m going to train push jerks/log this time around. I feel as though my strict press being trained excessively is futile and it’s not laziness but it’s the admittance that I’m at a point where getting my SOHP anywhere higher than where it currently is (260 PR @225 BW) is just impossible right now. I know for a fact it’s because it will take alot more upper body mass to handle weight so much higher than my BW. This is probably where most guys peak out on that lift anyway.

Long term goals are as followed:

600 deadlift
455 front squat
365 push jerk

Those numbers will fall at some point in time.

Anyway, time to rest up. I’ll have to do my axle deadlift challenge the week I return.

9/2/13

Push Jerks
135x5, pretty severe pain through the thumb have never felt this before.

Iced hand for a few minutes then ran under hot water attempting to get rid of the pain lol.
135x5 felt better
225x5 punched these reps out fast without pausing at the bottom of the movement/at my chest. felt good.
275x8 PR? Felt ok, 8th rep was good, 7th was ugly as fuck. I’ll take 8, wanted 10.

Standing BTH BB Tri Ext.
135x5
115x8
115x5
115x5
115x5

CG BB curls
95x5,5,5
95x10 loldontcurl.

Delt complex (invert. rows, front raise, side lateral)

Inverted Rows Front raise Side Lat.
x12 x12 x10

Did that complex 3-5 times with no rest between exercises, but about 30 seconds rest after the entire circuit.

Fuckin nice overhead.

Also lol @ the manual icy-hot.

[quote]csulli wrote:

Yeah, it’s peculiar how well that works for getting rid of pain. It didn’t really fix the issue but my pain subsided for the most part for the bulk of the workout. I can guess where the pain was coming from, but I’m hoping it’s not any structural bullshit because I’ve hardly had any issues in the past with upper body issues.

9/3/13

Instead of deadlifts today I just did some tire flips at work. I pulled some out with the skid steer and found some I never flipped before. It’s caked with age-old tack, but oh well gotta be tough man!

The small one (760lbs) is the same size and model of my 650-680 I have here at home, but has full tread on it, so it’s significantly heavier and much more difficult to flip due to me being unable to slip my hands under the tread; I actually have to grip and grab the tread to flip the tire.

The really big tire I was unable to flip for a multitude of reasons weighed 965lbs~, but the scale at work is probably a few dozen pounds off lol. I tried to flip it and when I went to sit it on my knee I got a huge hamstring cramp. Dehydrated and kind of lacking today so i called it after hitting a few reps with the baby one and attempt at the big one.

9/5/13

FS @ 9:30 pm with dehydration and no nutrition in me.
135x5
225x3 feeling stiff/crampy
275x3
325x2 hm, beltless is beginning to feel unusual. my thoracic spine just gives right away.
335x2 what a waste of an attempt
275x5,5,5,5 as soon as i go to stretch my back my quad cramps up. I have to finish this workout.
275x6

This took a long time to figure out if I was gonna do or not. My quads felt really bad and I knew it was from severe dehydration and my body wasn’t stretched or warmed up enoiugh (it really could not have been done amply because of the circumstances).

My fucking quad cramped up when I took 275 out on the last set, and I stood there with it on my chest just thinking for what seemed like a century on if I should squat or just rack it. I told myself this time you don’t quit because these situations is where pulling through really matters.

This workout was really just shit and I shot for 335x5x5 but really found out that’s probably hardly doable FRESH lol.

Gonna be working tons of more hours like I did today in the near future.
