I saw your vid and thought about the thread in SAMA pch started about delicate girls. Now, Kimba, you look delicate, all small and cute, but that only extends to your frame. You got some serious strength and definitely prove that “delicate” is a state of mind. You rock! :)
Thanks Grn! What a sweet thing for you to say. Its sure interesting, but the delicate frame is rather a disadvantage in powerlifting. So, I go and pick that as a hobby. Typical me.
I saw pch’s thread, and absolutely hate on “delicate-in-the-head” women. Whiners of either gender just piss me off.
I don’t think your frame can handle it.
That’s an inside joke, btw. Whenever you’re about lift a weight, you say “I don’t think my frame can handle it,” and then go do it anyway.
'Sides, it’s good to remember that human bone is structurally stronger than steel, strength is in the nervous system (up to a point) and that giving up is the biggest limiter in gaining strength.

I thought about posting something along that line in that thread but people get so butthurt in SAMA sometimes that I just decided to stay out of it.
Snapper, I think we’ve established that we have irreconcilable differences when it comes to our shoe aesthetics.

I like that. Its especially funny when Meat says it. Sometimes I absolutely feel my CNS giving up on a lift and I’m mostly unsuccessful in gutting through that.
giterdone, that is almost a ballet turn-out on that man!

Joe, x 2.
First of all (ok I’ll stop saying that), cute feet. And I’m not really a foot guy.
And, that is a bit more turn-out than I use but it depends on the width of your stance and how your knees track.
kimbakimba wrote:
chucks are ugly no question.
Wow. This really hurts. Especially since next to my combat boots, chucks are my favorite shoes.
DITTO, Snaps! I sometimes carry extra shoes wit me (if the occasion suits) cause I ain’t liftin in nothin but my Chucks (all black btw)!
Kimba, I gotta back Giter’s play here (on the foot stance thing). We have to place our feet the way our body wants to perform the movement correctly. If that means spread your feet and point your toes (where do your knees track? a little outside, if I recall) then that’s what we have to do. (At least until we get into specific protocols, but that’s another story…)

So I’m taking on the challenge. I intend to get a pedicure tomorrow and take a pic of my feet in some sexy [but rarely worn] shoes to post. Your log or mine?
[This type of post signifies an injured lifter. One who wants to contribute but has absolutely nothing interesting to report on the gym front.]

Yeah, I was a little worried she might take it as an insult and not a compliment.

Yours. So that all your fans can find the pic.
And I must ask, why are the sexy shoes rarely worn? If the reason is they aren’t comfortable, then get your ass out shopping and find some sexy shoes that you’ll actually wear. Life is short and its time to use up our sexy while we still can.
Chucks are great…for lifting (CDQ I don’t lift in the Dior sandals…time and a place) but for me they don’t reflect my style.
Grn, the truth is that those particular sandals are terribly uncomfortable. They are killer cute however, and I’ll bear it for special occasions. French girls like N. will understand this.

the youngin shall speak.
It takes some effort, (its passive on my part) but the shoes of which she speaks exist.
my fav shoe story;
They were 5 inch, red and blue plaid, peeptoes, with a big black button on the lateral side of the peep. Clearance, $20. I put them on and needed them more than dinner that night. (seriously skipped the olive garden so i could get em.)
My fav outfit is and was a pair of jeans and a black shirt… the red plaid caught an eye and started conversations. as time and bars came and went, they became only MORE comfortable, to the disbelief of anyone who saw them. Even the night a girlfriend had her car window broken in, and i ran across the parking lot to flag down a police officer about to pull in the mcdonalds drive through (not kidding), in the rain. wearing those shoes. they were comfy.
alas, i came home drunk at someones house one night and left my shoes in the kitchen. the dogs at that residence shredded them before i knew what happened. a moment of silence, please… alright. leaving the house how.
CBear, that story made me sad. May your perfect shoes find you one more time.
Maschy, no those aren’t my favorite heels due to the hurty-feet factor. But no-one gets 'em until I’m dead because I can’t afford to replace them. ps. a bedroom gym is indeed quite naughty. p.p.s. I have black chucks too.
N., only if my German and Swiss ancestors dashed to the border for some French nookie. A theory which I won’t discount.
After taking in the commentary on my squat video, today my training goal for squats was to try out a slightly wider stance with more toe turnout. I was also shooting for incorporating hips forward and “knees out” as an integral part of getting out of the hole instead of a separate cue, if that makes any sense.
5/3/1 “Off the Reservation Day”
Squats (to 3 risers/step – thought about raising this up but decided to test a new stance without changing any other variable)
Bar 1 x 5
75# 1 x 5 - wider stance with toes more flared, felt unstable
85# 1 x 5 - slightly less wide stance than first set, toes flared, felt better
95# 1 x 5 - same stance as last set, knee cave on last two reps
85# 1 x 5 - same stance, easy
75# 1 x 5 - same stance, easy
65# 1 x 10 - same stance, easy
I liked the slightly wider stance and more flared toes enough to keep working with it. I am seeing my ART girl later today and will ask her about her rec. to keep the feet straight.
Bench Press
bvar 1 x 5
65# 1 x 5
75# 1 x 5
85# 1 x 5 ← Rep PR +1, failed on 6
Hey! Another good day on the bench. I am using my legs better, and driving my heels into the floor.
Walking lunges
20s 1 x 60 steps
BW prisoner lunges 1 x 60 steps
Dips
BW with explosive knees to chest at the top just like Bobbi! 1 x 8
But damn it, I forgot the hold at the bottom and she did one more than me. Must try this again.
BW regular 1 x 15
Plank in top pushup position, 2 min.
Side planks
Any day at the gym with a PR in it is an awesome day.
It would take a pretty convincing argument from someone that I trusted to get me to squat toes forward rather than angled out. In fact, I doubt that even a convincing argument from someone I trusted would get me to do that.
