Daley did pretty well IIRC. Other than that, in my opinion he hasn’t been fighting at that level. Of course, he’s been owning guys for the most part, with KJ being an exception, so…
I think he’s an interesting matchup honestly. Nick would lose to the wrestler gauntlet at WW, all of them, but matchups like Kampmann, Alves, Hardy, Condit etc, guys not known for takedowns, leave me intrigued. Which is not to say I’d think he’d win all of them.

I think if you put him back at UFC with some strikers and give him time to develop his wrestling defense he becomes a huge force to be reckoned with.
Perhaps… but he isn’t… at least not yet.
Just like I’d love to see how Overeem would stack up against Cain.
Maybe it’ll happen, but the UFC WW div is very strong compared to SF. I really feel like the heavies are the only group SF brings to the table as a whole.
Diaz has had years to develop his standup grappling. While it’s totally possible he’ll improve in that aspect there’s little reason to think this is likely.

What fights was his wrestling really bad? I remember him defending the takedown really well against Sherk. Was it the Karo fight, Sanchez? He’s now a Cesar Gracie black belt. Gracie has only given out 4 black belts. Recent fights may make his TD defense look weak, but I assume this is only because he is fighting non wrestlers. It’s really all speculation at this point. If he isn’t matched with a UFC wrestler next I really want to see him fight Tyron Woodley which would give us a good indication of where Diaz is at.
OH AND REPORTS ARE SAYING JIM MILLER TO STRIKEFORCE TO FIGHT MELENDEZ!!!
Miller is no joke, if Gil can win this impressively he is without a doubt the number one LW in the world imo.
I disagree with the no.1 ranking though. The LW division needs this fight as a ranking equalizer. Very nice setup by Zuffa.
Diaz’s takedown defense is pretty decent IMO. It’s his takedown ability I was referring to. Everything I’ve seen suggests he’s very dangerous from the top, but he doesn’t have the tools to get there, not against guys like KJ, and not against the GSPs, Koschecks and Alves of the world.

I think he beats all of them standing though, rumor us he’s fighting Jeff Lacy or Ricardo Mayorga.
Diaz gets KOd within 2 minutes of the first.
I don’t believe that there is currently an mma champ that is good enough to step into a boxing ring with a world class fighter and actually win. Not Diaz, not Silva not anyone!

And vice versa
You’re absolutely right. You can never beat a man at his own game. We can see how James Toney did against Randy Couture. And if Couture tried to stand with Toney he’d be on his back looking at the lights.

There is no way this actually goes down. I don’t think even Diaz is delusional enough to think he won’t get murdered in there.
I’m a dog lover and I have to say your dog is a great looking animal, (I assume it’s your dog).
Oh and if Diaz does it there will be a huge pay day because even he probably knows he’d get destroyed.
Thanks Zeb. Her name’s Mocha. Actually, her AKC registered name is “Mocha Bear the Tiny Terrorist”, but she’s cool with just “Mocha”.
Didn’t think of the monetary aspect. Not sure what Diaz is making in SF but I imagine a cross over fight would be a step up.
His last fight was 175 g’s without any bonuses (I don’t think SF gives win bonuses idk)
In his last fight, supposedly Sergio Martinez made 1.2mil vs Serhiy Dzinziruk. Serhiy made 850k. So a hyped fight billed as Boxing vs MMA would probably make Diaz 500+g’s.
If I’m Diaz, and as long as hospital bills are taken care of, I’d do it.
About MMA Purses i wouldn’t bet on reported values
If you look Brock Lesnar at 2010 The ufc purse was 400k for Lesnar against Carwin and 400k against Veslasquez but recent reports show that he made 2.5 millions on each fight, not counting Endorsements and other stuff.
