Awesome main event…and co-main event(Melendez vs Thomson III)…
Barnett has always been a favorite…but I also recognized Cormier as part of the future of good HW’s. Barnett came to fight…but Cormier was top dog. His hands were faster than Barnett’s…and his takedowns were on point. Very versatile fighter in Emelianegro…aka Black Fedor…as people jokingly like to call him…lol. Now…what worth does that Strikeforce HW belt have in relation to current status of their HW division?? Cormier should be in UFC,imo.
Melendez “eeked” by Thomson with split decision…many felt Thomson dominated Gil. I think he could have brought the fight to Gil a little more…considering he was bettering him with the standup.
***Also…Chris Spang’s TKO finish…was awesome. Too bad his bro(Andreas Spang) couldn’t have done same to dirty Falcao over in Bellator. Spang bros. have some mean lead hooks…
Chris Spang’s finish (love the double up on the lead hook…hate there wasn’t better camera angle). sidenote this gif edited out the other knees Spang dished out before the one that made Burrell drop.
I like melendez, but this fight clearly showed some weaknesses. I know that nate diaz and Gilbert will never fight, but nate would beat gilbert in my opinion. Gilbert got hit alot in this fight.

Hmmm…I don’t know…the fact that they train together opens up chance either guy exposing the other’s weaknesses. But from simple striking aspect(and BJJ game)…yes…I would pick Nate.
SF contract is up soon, so Cormier will be in the UFC very soon. I see one UFC win before a title shot.
Sucks Barnett broke his hand is he first round. I remember thinking in the 3 or 4th round why the hell did he stop jabbing. Barnett is as tough as they come, fan for life.

Hmm…we shall see. Oh…and Cormier broke his hand in first round as well…and never said a word to his coaches till after the fight. Two tough dudes.
Both should be in the UFC. I don’t know who said it, but Strikeforce should disband its heavy class and let the top guys try the luck in the sharktank.
I think Barnett just matches horribly with Cormier, who was just phenomenal.
A strong, short top-greco wrestler can nullify his not so stellar takedowns while boxingwise a fast, fearless combination-puncher who goes in and out makes the Warmaster look babyfaced.
If Cormier abandons his damn strategic top control and goes for classic gnp, he might become Fedor’s spiritual heir.

Doesnt that make StrikeForce a new version of WEC?
StrikeForce to me is the minor leagues where they have a real chance to show off some of the younger guys and let the older guys still draw a little. Its a solid promotion as is and i hope it stays around for a long time. Plus they are one of the few places that really showcases Womens mma in a positive way so more power to them. I never would of developed a crush on Rhousey if not for StrikeForce.

All totally understandable. HOWEVER…in regards to the Strikeforce HW division a huge portion of top talent is now in the UFC. Think about it…who is Cormier going to defend his belt against??
Agreed. Their HW division has a few great additions to the UFC. That and Gil/Thomson, need to get moved over. They’ve already pillaged the rest of the big names anyway.
Cormier vs the UFC top 5 HWs (Mir, JDS, Cain, Carwin, Werdum), who ya got?

Ok so drop the heavies and leave everything else as is? Or does it become WEC 2 with women?

Good question…part of me thinks it will eventually be the brand for women’s MMA. Just a hunch shrug

Feeder org with women fights.
He’s got the edge
vs Mir if he stays on his feet, as Mir is essentially a worse Barnett
vs Carwin, who’s too one-dimensional with bad cardio. Cormier has shown to have guts, versatility, stamina, speed. Bad matchup for Carwin.
he loses
vs DosSantos - stylistically at a disadvantage against a better power-outboxer, maybe if he can take him down repeatedly?
vs Werdum - too crafty a guardpuller with loong legs
no idea: Cain V.
@women’s MMA
Right now Rousey is on top.
But the UFC would be mad to invest in a single ship that can sink.
Imagine her first bout in the UFC- and she gets creamed. What then?
UFC brass hates to look foolish.
So they’ll leave women to other organizations and wait.
Not the same with the heavies, as BigBoss wrote: who will be the challenger?
Brett Rogers? Barnett again? Kharitonov? Mighty Mo?

So leave it as a feeder org and once its clear the guy is to good strikeforce heavies bump him up. The guys you listed at the end dont do so well in the current UFC heavies. They are good fighters but not among the games elite right now. If you leave them there in strikeforce they can still draw a little where as if you bump them into the UFC they dont even make main card.

both of them got 60-180 days for their breaks, thomson may get a 6 month med suspension for possible left knee fracture and right hand fracture- per yahoo’s site.

so where do you guys think Gil ranks? I havent been impressed with his last few fights and thought Josh probably should have gotten the W in this one. for a guy whose posse claims he’s the best 155’er in the world I’m just not seeing it. maybe Josh is just a bad match up for him, just dont think he would fair too well against top 5 155’s
