I have heard from many coaches that it is not best to stretch right after lifting because your CNS is fired up and you wont get a very good stretch. Would it be ok to stretch lower body after an upper body workout and vice-versa or does the fired up nervous system transfer over to the whole body?, I’am thinking it does but I’am not sure.
I say just Strecth when the hell ever you will do it. Except Pre workout IMO. But I dont strecth nearly enough so Thats what I have to do take it when I can.
But I also feel a nice strecth when still PUMPED really aids in recovery etc.
I say your idea would be great.
Thats just my take though

I stretch while I am pumped, it is an extremely awsome feeling. My whole body just wants to frickin’ explode with enjoyment. I do a little stretching in between sets also, but nothing to much until I am finished.
Stretching has many benefits!
Pre, post or on recovery days, stretching will increase your recovery time PERIOD!!!

I’m 30 and I stretch for at least 10 minutes before, and during a workout, (in between sets), and a post work out stretch is very important too, I do another 10 minutes all over warm down and strewtch, this helps me train more and receive less injuries, I have very very tight hamstrings and stretch them 3 times a day even on my off days.
I have heard that you shouldnt stretch before you lift. The reasoning was something about elongating the muscle and hurting some of its contracting power. Is this true. I know this isnt the scientific explaination but its just what I have heard from this and other sites.
Static stretching after your workout.
Dynamic stretching can be done prior to your workout if necessary and you know how to do it.
I use a static stretching routine after my workouts.
Joe defranco has a two part discussion about stretching on his website. Take a look at it. I used to static stretch before and during my workout until I read his article and it made sense. Here is the link to his article section and you can click on the The Stretching Roundtable 1 and 2.
