That goes back a long ways because a Kimura has been called a Kimura for something like 6 decades.

Old enough to know better but young enough to do it anyway.

I wouldn’t. In most cases, I wouldn’t have to fight.
The best outcome of a street fight is to avoid it in the first place. One of the basic premises of Martial Arts is the avoidance of conflict, not the daring of it.
I have other ‘attributes’ I could use to avoid conflict. If one will back out of a fight due to his opponent’s size, then other methods of intimidation may prove equally effective. When there’s no chance of avoiding the conflict, the surprise and confusion created by underestimation will ensure it ends quickly and in the underestimated’s favor.
I have no formal MA training myself, but I would bet another one of their basic premises in to never underestimate an opponent, for this very reason.
That said, you’re much larger than me, X. Perhaps I would believe differently if I were bigger.[/quote]
You sound like someone who grew up rarely actually having to prove that. Your perspective changes when you actually face the possibility of getting hurt on a daily basis growing up. Your first line of defense is to NOT be a target in the first place.
Life isn’t an action movie. I get the feeling that some of you have this running movie in your head where someone tries to attack you and you burst into your Jet Li-Crouching Tiger moves and surprise your attacker.
Trust me, if you are being attacked, chances are a weapon is involved…and you won’t be “surprising” a damn thing…except maybe your underwear.

I think this is a good argument for my new training schedule
Mon- Saturday:
bench 10x10
Curls 10x10
face scrunches 10x100
Sunday:
barbell Shrugs 10x10
dumbbell shrugs 5x20
pec deck 10x25

You should start with the face scrunches so you have a mean face already before your workout. This will have better carryover to your lifts, and should improve your lifts by approximately 23.45678%

I’ve gotten into a few scuffles, but I’m a white kid from the 'burbs. Weapons never really factored into it. No real danger.
I also have no Crouching Tiger moves.

Yeah, walking through the projects in 3rd Ward Houston at night will clear that right up for you.

Really? People call me a pussy, coward, punk ass bitch, weak ass punk, etc… when I avoid conflict like that.

Maybe you are one. In this city, when you actually learn to NOT be a target, we call you “made it past the age of 18”.
What does knowing how to not be a target have to do with being a pussy?

“MOST” I know this is a very small minority but, when i was in high school we would have bench press competitions. The four years that a was there the same guy won every single competition we had. He was on the wrestling team and was 135 lbs & maybe 5’3" we called him “midg” because, genetically, he looked like he just missed being a midget (little person). He had really short arms, but he was lifting 405!!! Most impressive strength i’ve ever seen.

That 405 had all of 1 inch to travel.

What is the deal with some of you and this “always right” bullshit? He’s 5’3". His arms are probably less than half the length of the average man. What is there to be “wrong” about? That’s common sense and, yes, I am sure it was more than exactly one inch.
Also, 135lbs at 5’3" is almost comparable to someone of average height close to or over 200lbs. He really isn’t that small given his stature. Someone that tall would look at least a little built at that weight. They would look absolutely freakish over 170-180lbs.
what the fuck is your attitude dick head, you swear that your some type of weight lifting God & no matter what anyone in here posts you have nothing but negativity. FUCK YOU… Anyone at 5’3" 135 that can even move 400+ lbs is impressive. Apparently you only work out with Mythical Gods that can lift mountains, but to most of us thats some impressive shit! And for your information this isnt Professor Nation, not everyone in here gives a shit about your “opinions” so why dont you shut the fuck up sometimes and let people express themselves without being picked apart by your arrogant, narrow minded bullshit!
I don’t know about the ninja scenario skill will always beat strength look at royce gracie v the sumo wretler. Kenny Florian in the UFC. Or how bad Tank Abbot sucks even though he benches 600 pounds. Now for the average person in a street fight strength certainly would matter.

Rough day?
great study,
this could possibly explain why as a bouncer I have never actually had to fight anyone. they always talk shit but keep moving. Whereas my buddy who works as a bouncer at the same bar on different nights has to use “reasonable force” to “assist” unruly patrons to the door. He’s 200+ lbs but has a weak jaw line.
and I love MMA, but outside the octagon gross motor function + strength almost always wins, unless there is a weapon (which is very likely). other factors include not hitting the vinyl coated cage but a brick wall, parked car,or fire hydrant. losing your footing in gravel or stepping off a curb you didn’t know was behind you. and of course the opponents back up guy with the louisville slugger.
I think the strength thing definitely matters more in a real street fight and less in a sanctioned fight in a ring. Most of that jujitsu stuff isn’t really going to help you in a real street fight against someone much stronger than you…because he is just going to slam your head into the concrete wall and/or floor which will be the end it.
And about the 5’3" at 135 - that actually would look decently built. I have a friend who is 5’4" about 150lbs, lean and he looks fucking jacked.

I wrote that he isn’t that small…AS IN, HE IS CARRYING A GOOD DEAL OF MASS FOR HIS HEIGHT, yet you took this as me saying his lift wasn’t impressive? I was letting you know that he is relatively about the size as guys of average height who can get that much if they are genetically gifted.
Why does this shit need to be spelled out to some of you?
