Straight Arm Pulldown Work

Hi coach,

I programmed in some kayak rows I saw you demonstrate and they have been working out great.

Some potato at the gym took the lat pulldown bar last session and I couldn’t find it so I ended up doing single arm straight arm lat pulldowns.

My body started close to upright, grab a single handle with one hand. I bend over as I pull down and at the end I’m in a bent over row position with my arm almost inline with my body.

This was extremely humbling so I did it for high reps (20). I felt pretty silly doing these but they felt great for a long while afterwards.

How should I treat these? Is this closer to band work like pullaparts or can I work these in as an effective muscle building movement?

They can be used for muscle building. Perfect for mind-muscle connexion, pre-fatiguing the lats or during a double stimulation/less intense day

Exactly. They can be used at the beginning of a back workout to improve mind-muscle connection but can also stimulate growth if the time under tension is 40-60 seconds per set
