Stomach Fat

I started off as a weakling 1.5 years ago. I didn’t push myself seriously at lifting until 6-7 months ago. Let’s say that I’ve been lifting seriously for 8 months with powerlifting(DL, SQ, BP).

My diet has been clean/enough for 8 months. At 6’3" I weighed 180 lbs 1.5 years ago; now 235 lbs.

I’ve noticed gains in my whole body, however I have unpleasant stomach fat.

Two weeks ago I started Arnold’s program. The first week I only trained 2 days because I was sick with sinus infection. Next week, I trained 4/7 days per week. I plan on doing 6 days a week eventually to sculpt my body.

Finally I get to my question, “Will my stomach fat eventually become reduced from working my abs everyday?” Should I consider eating less and cardio?

No. stomach fat will be minimally reduced from working abs. Eating less (but enough to maintain muscle mass) and incorporating cardio are good choices. You have the options of HIIT cardio, fasted low intensity cardio, and moderate cardio post workout as viable options to reduce your fat stores.

dunno though, if your still trying to gain, the belly may be something you have to live with. gotta eat.

Doing abs does not make your stomach smaller.

Only lowering your body fat will do that.

So I can sculpt my stomach now?

At 6’3" I’m 240 lbs, I can probably afford to lose weight. How about if I lift 4-5 days per week? Do I still have to do cardio?

I’d really prefer to lift than cardio.

LMAO! yeah… it depends on how easy it is for you to put on fat, the more fat you gain, the more likely it will be you need to add cardio, as otherwise you would need to restrict calories to too low a level.

ya get me?

Try lowering calories a little bit every week (100-200 kcal), and keep doing that til you lose weight, but try to maintain your lifts if at all possible while doing this. Depending on your diet/training/body-type, you may be able to lose the fat without doing “cardio” per se.

Well cardio will definitely help you shed fat. But you also have to be careful not to over do it because you could also lose some of your muscle mass. I know I have been advised by various sources to lower my treadmill exercises to 20 min(half sprints, half walking) all the way from 70 minutes.

Your a lot like me, i hate doing cardio. Thats ok though.

Look into EDT. Also, make sure your still lifting heavy, this is one of the best ways to make sure you lose fat and not muscle. I truly believe if you train right, and modify your eating you can build some muscle while losing fat.

Also look at some of CT’s articles. The transformation ones. He talks about how some people need to avoid simple carbs, and some need lower carbs all together. This would be a great start to losing stomach fat while continuing to build.
