Nice work another step towards 600. What are shooting for at the meet?
Do you like the Ram better than the slingshot? It looks like the Ram is worn several inches higher.
my plan is to open with 500 raw, then go 510 or so for a second attempt and then on my third crossover to the titan/slingshot division and hit something in the upper 500’s.
they are totally different. the ram is easier to use and allows you to keep your same raw bar path. the maddog definitely will allow you to lift more weight but it’s much more like a real bench shirt. i really haven’t spent much time in it. i can’t use the maddog in this meet since it’s double ply. after the meet i’ll see what i can do with it.
MMeat - Sorry if you posted this already-- where did you order your Titan Ram? Right from Titan or another outlet?
I’ve been reading your posts about them with interest, and this last post about the Ram being closer to a raw path is the decision maker for me.
i ordered it straight from Titan. i have a large and a medium one. i actually use the medium one the most. i like it to sit right below the biceps. teh large has a tendency to slide all the way up to the shoulders. it also lays flat on the chest the entire time unlike the slingshot. i would definitely go with the titan. they also make a double ply titan that i will probably buy soon as well.
Cool, thanks.
How much carry over to your raw bench do you think training with the Ram has/had? Help more at lock out? No correlation?
anytime you can train above your max and still go full ROM is a good thing. i used to do a lot of board presses but the Ram has replaced them. it allows you to keep your same groove but go much heavier. getting stronger is all about conditioning the CNS to handle heavier and heavier weight. i’ve gotten a lot out of it.

I love that a 50 lbs. increase per week is “working up slowly”. By my calculation if you stay at the same “slow” progress rate each week you will be doing 1005 pds. against double minis by the first of July!
Hello M. Meat.
I tried doing this breath holding thing for my bench press that you told DBasler about and I am very bad at it. I start to get panicked mid set and I end up not pausing my reps long enough because I feel like I am going to die, LOL.
Should I just hold my breath for like 2 reps, then exhale, and hold my breath again for the remainder of the set until I can work up to it?
Thanks.

yeah… you need to build up to it. each time you bench, try to add a rep or two. it’s very important to hold your breath with the heavy sets and those are only going to be a few reps anyway. although, on my high rep sets i know that once i breath that i only have a few more reps left in me because i’ve flattened out and lost tightness.
overhead pressing- used the titan again for some “Meat” presses. went really well. it definitely overloads the top end. we also tried out some clean and presses with the log. i’ve never done these before and i’m sure my form is horrible but i’ll stick with them. they are a total body movement and i felt them everywhere.
overhead press warmup

235x8-the press is very easy but the clean is horrible. looked more like a reverse curl. i’ll keep practiciing.
pullups-dead hang on each rep

BW + 25lbs x 8 - wide grip
BW + 25lbs x 8 - neutral grip

Just got back from reffing the SPF meet at Brute Strength gym in virginia meet. we had a few of our guys competing as well. it was a great meet. They do an awesome job of running meets down there. they have it down to a science. It runs very smoothly. saw some great gear and raw lifting.
now it’s time to plan my own SPF meet for this summer.
if anyone’s interested…here’s the meet i reffed today- the SPF Brute Strength gym meet. it was streamed live to powerliftingwatch.com. i’m the side judge to the far right in the grey hoodie and skull cap.
I watched most of the squats, and some of the pulling. Wish I had been there. It did get me amped thou. Maybe the Nationals, or the raw pro/am In August.
squats- i think i’m over the hump on my recovery. today i worked up to a moderate weight on front squats and leg press. everything went well.
leg press- warmup

135x10
185x6
225x6
275x4
315x4

long pause- front squat - 5 seconds on each pause
315x2
365x2
405x1
leg press

4plates x 10
6plates x 10
8plates x 10
10plates x 10
12plates x 10
14plates x 10
16plates x 10
finally a little weight being moved.
LONG Pause on those front squats-looked real strong!
Very impressive weight and the bottom holds were rock solid.
benching- this was my last bench session until the bench meet next week. i worked up to some comfortable attempts tonight. everything felt really good. i spoke with the meet director and he’s going to allow me to open raw and then crossover to the titan/slingshot division. tonight i worked up to 480 raw with a competition pause and then worked up to 565 with the titan with a competition pause. these were all very comfortable. next week i will work up to my actual first attempt. i have some thinking to do until then though.

maybe…
I am guessing 575 for 3 white lights. (titan)
Is your bench high, for the plates your feet are on?
Powerful lifting now.

thanks for the kind words.

i use the plates because i have short legs and they allow me to get better leg drive than when i don’t use them. the 100lb plates are the same thickness of boxes that are legal in my federation.
thanks hoss.
Thank you for your answer.
Good luck at the Meet, Meat.
