and for shits and giggles… here’s a reverse grip in competition.
Thanks for posting these Meat. I love it- I bet after the first reserve grip bench in competition there were plenty of people talking about it and I’m guessing everyone in the place was watching the second one.
245 x 15 overhead pressing once again = awesome work.
the head judges and the spotters were very nervous. i told them that it felt just as comfortable as a normal grip to me. still…i could see they were very close to the bar the entire time.
I just read the NASA rules of competition for benching.
3. His hands may grip the bar with a â??thumbs aroundâ?? grip, or a Thumb less grip. (Waiver release required for thumb-less grip)
Note: The use of the “reverse grip” on the bench is strictly forbidden
An Anit-meat rule. That ain’t right!!
sounds like you need to find yourself an SPF meet:)
Thanks Meat I appreciate it. I’m going to try the Maddog but like you mentioned it will probably take me a while to get used to the groove because I bench high naturally.
I hadn’t noticed the Titan in any of your videos, have you ever used it in competition?

this is from last week. it’s in my log.
i’ve never used it in competition. using slingshots and titans have just started to show up in meets.
My fault- Not sure why I missed it. You made thst look real easy even though it looked like it drifted up towards your face more than on your raw benches.
Are feds just doing separate divisions for guys wearing a slingshot?
Arrgg. Please no more separate divisions. I know with USAPL if a lifter uses one piece of gear on even one lift (knee sleeves, for example), you’re considered geared for the meet.
overhead press’n- i got the bright idea today to see if it was possible to overhead press using the Titan Ram and/or Slingshot. so i warmed up to my BW on overhead press and then threw on the Titan Ram first. It took a little getting used to but after a couple sets it was very comfortable and gave a good bit of pop off the chest. I found that pushing it up to the armpits and being sure to arch hard and taking a fairly narrow grip was much more comfortable. As for the slingshot, because of how it’s designed, it didn’t transfer well to overhead pressing for me. it sticks out in line with your arms until the bar gets close to the chest and then lays down. this made it hard to press and the bar drifted away from you. the Titan lays tight against the chest the whole time much like a real bench shirt and was much more natural. I’ll be sticking with it. I hit an easy 275, then 295 and 315 for 4 with it. i got one hell of a shoulder pump and tricep pump from it. I"m calling them “Meat presses” since i’ve never seen anyone do them before.

yeah… you really need to consciously row the weight really low because it wants to pull the weight back over your face.
What feds other than SPF allow a reverse grip on the platform? I’ve never seen one. But there’s only NASA and USAPL in my neck of the woods.
If you compete with a Ram/Slingshot, that counts as geared, right? Why not just shirt up? Certainly there are more benefits.
My coach has a Ram and it makes me a nervous wreck to spot because the groove seems unpredictable. More so than a belted shirt at least.
Awesome that you’re DLing already with those quads.
I really have no idea. I only compete SPF unless i do an unsanctioned meet here and there. I’ve been to a couple bench only meets that have a third division for the slingshot/ram. It’s mostly for fun. I don’t see it becoming something that would be tracked by powerliftingwatch…but who knows.
I’ve gotten pretty used to using it and would like to see what i could do with it in competition. I really don’t have much of an interest in a full on bench shirt at this point but enjoy the ease of the ram and slingshot.
thanks!! it’s nice to finally be back on tracks with deads and squats. now i just have to get my strength back.
i’m reffing my first SPF meet on April 14th at Brute Strength gym in VA. beach.

Wow, you have the Maddog XL? I bought the 2 XL and I could definitely go down a size, lol. The XL must be pretty tight on you, haha. It seems tight enough though, I just put it above my elbows and it works fine. Easy to take on and off by myself anyway. Measured my arms for the first time in a while the other day… just breaking over 18" right now… first time seeing that. Aren’t your arms like 20" or something?

since the slingshot sits on the elbows i wanted it to be really tight. it can only losen up over time. i have to have someone pull them up over my elbows but it’s doeable. i wanted one that everyone could use as well. since you asked… i measured them. they are just under 20 and my forearms are 16. we’ve been doin a ton of forearm and bicep work lately.

I’m glad you posted. I ordered the XL as well because I don’t have anyone to help me get it on. I was having second thoughts when Meat said he could fit into an XL. My arms are right at 18" so I should be ok.
Meat you should totally design a slingshot for OHP. Something you slip behind the head onto the shoulders with elbow suport. It would make you pull your head through and still give you help off the bottom.
You can send me one after you go into production and make your first million with it…lol
