It’s all about lookin strong!! I’m actually in the process of dropping some pounds. I was weighing 260 last weekend, and this monday I started a carb cycling diet. I plan to drop to around 235 so I have some cushion room for the 242 class. Plus, I want to lose the belly that I seem to have developed. :D
I’ll be interested to see how dropping weight affects your strength levels. I’ve always been intrigued how in olymic lifting the superheavys can lift more than the heavyweights even though they look to have the same amount of lean body mass. So it seems the extra fat they carry does contribute somehow even though physiologically it shouldn’t.
Great lifting by the way, but way out of my league!

I, too, am interested in how one finds the maximal strength-to-weight ratio.
I am liking this day a lot. Just a couple good exercises and then abs.
525 was pretty hard… I was going to go for 4 but it would have been iffy. Next week will be 5/3/1 top set being 555, and I will try to hit a double on that. Those squats felt much better this week. I started my diet plan at the beginning of the week, and have been doing a bit of cardio in the AM, and I can already notice a difference. Next DL session I will move to 3x6 on those and just ramp the weight.
that’s it. time to eat a whole chocolate cake now. i hear that’s how you get huuuuuugggggeeee!!!
Quoted for ULTIMATE TRUTH!!!
Side question, when it comes to variations of lifts (board presses, floor presses, etc) how do you work them in on 5/3/1? Do you just do the 5/3/1 set up for the variation, or have you just decided to use the variations as accessories only?
Finally threw up an avatar, lol. Haven’t had a recent picture in a while and this one is from a buddies bachelor party in atlantic city a couple months ago. We were just hangin out by the beach with some cigars.

that’s a good question… i don’t know since i started 5/3/1 i haven’t done any variations yet. everything is still progressing nicely without them. although, i have started doing deads and squats in the same session having one be the full ROM 5/3/1 and the other be a variation. for example, on squat day i’ll do full ROM squats using 5/3/1, then after the squats i’ll do elevated pulls from mid shin working up to a heavy single. on Dead day i’ll do full ROM deads using 5/3/1 and then do something like front squats for 5 sets of 10 reps.

Haha Yeah, it does help, I am just trying to figure out how to incorporate various board presses and band presses (resisted and assisted). I love doing them, but dunno how I would fit them in.

BTB Push Press
2x135
1x185
1x225 … just some fun… this flew up super fast
Flat DB Bench Press
10x80
10x80
10x80
9x80 *endurance…
DB Row
10x80
10x80
10x80
10x80
Reverse Pec Dec
10x75
10x75
12x60
12x60
Thats it. Got out of there pretty fast. Scott couldn’t make it today so I was by myself. Bench felt heavy but I got my 3 reps in. Lack of endurance defeated me on the dumbell pressing. Had a nice pump when I left. I feel like I’ve said this a few times I guess, but I really feel like I should be rowing way more than I am. Just something I need to work on I suppose.
Oh yeah, and those push presses with the bar in the squat position… just wanted to see how fast I could throw 225 up. It didn’t even slow at all… I feel like I might be able to get around 300 now, but man I would have a hard time lowering that weight, lol.
Military Press
8xBar
5x140(75%)
3x155(85%)
4x175(95%)
That’s it. I got a couple videos but they are crappy quality. I’ll get them up later. Zerchers were pretty heavy. I’m not sure if I like doing them as my main lift. I think I will go back to back squats, and use zerchers as assistance. It was a fun idea but I don’t think I like it now. The pulls felt really good. I will probably try 605 next week, then after the deload we are going to do something different.
We did squat and press today because we missed squatting on thursday and I would rather just throw military in then missing squats. Deadlifts on tuesday… top set will be 555x1 and I will try to make it a double.
Oh, and I’m down about 10 pounds right now since starting my diet… but last night I sure didn’t stick to it. Good reason though… went out for an amazing dinner, then had a romantic night and got engaged.
