Steroids and Martial Arts with Bodybuilding?

is this posible can soemone combine these things together and if not bodybuilding can someone replace it with power lifting? because thats what i am curently doing i am on roids from time to time because i’ve been bodybuilding the past 4 years(actualy thats 10 years but i didnt always do it the right way so those years dont count)and recently (5 months ago) started kick boxing i would love to start <> but there is only <> in grecce or at least anyware near my city.

so my question is, can steroids help me in martial arts? or is it just right to leave it alone and just focus on pure kick boxing training? i would realy like to hear someones opinion who actualy tried this!!!i would like to know what are the problems related to both sport when being combined??

Most fight organizations not only frown on the use of performance enhancing drugs, but test for it in competition.

If you will only be doing it as a hobby/way to stay fit, and want to continue your body building for asthetics, then by all means, I don’t think anyone will stop you.

You’ll find, at least in my experience, MMA and other Combat Sport participants aren’t overly worried about their physical appearance. The physical strength would most certainly help in some aspects, but it’s just not worth it in my opinion…

The stickied post at the top of this forum expands greatly on the subject of weight training and martial arts. I would say it depends on what you want more, to be a solid martial arts guy, or a solid body builder.

They can bind you up and interfere with your ability to move. For any given height there is upper limit of body weight where anymore becomes a hindrance. How tall are you and how much do you weigh?

i am 180cm 87kg about 15.5% body fat and trying to lose more.

i have had several steroid cycles but now i am intrested in using the strength i have in martial arts!i read somewere that there are 2 types of muscle fiber the ones that contract fast for speed and the that contract slow for strength the problem is that i also read that you can turn type a muscle fiber (fast) into type b (slow) but it doesnt go the other way!is that true???

also i am intrested in doing both martial arts and bodybuilding so i cant be a solid martial art guy or asolid bodybuilder thats just my choice as hard as it seems to become true I WILL MAKE IT HAPPEN its the combination that will preveil in the end!(later in my life i will start kung-fu and wrestling so i will end up in mma but always be a bodybuilder)

i also would like to mention that there are steroids that dont increase your muscle volume but makes them harder and stronger with a noted agresivnes wich is a good thing when training in martial arts. here is a picture of me at the moment

thanks for your help i am grate full

as far as eitelmj mentioned before about steroids and aesthetics i could say that the reason i use them is not for a fit body but strength and endurance but if a fit body occurs in the way thats a welcome aspect!

also steroids greatly enchance physical strength and i would dare say speed of movement also another welcome effect! On the other hand no fight organizaton in greece tests for steroids as far as i know,so…i guess i am lucky??

Yia sou megale, where do you do train kickboxing/ pangratio in Greece? I live in London but come back to Athens to visit my family from time to time so I’d like to train while I’m there.

As far as I’m aware there’s quite a few places where you can do wrestling in Greece, so if you focus on that and kickboxing, you can work on the ground abroad or once you find a BJJ academy in Greece.

As far as steroids, that’s your personal choice, but I certainly don’t buy that they’ll actually be NEGATIVE to your training, I find that notion very outdated and naive.

As long as you have solid PCT and prioritise your striking/grappling, then you’ll make progress.

No, steroids won’t make you better at martial arts. They will help you beat people who are physically weaker or people with poor technique, but you will not become very good. You have to learn how to use technique, and if you are trying to out-muscle people in practice your technique will suck. Learn the game, develop your technique, and beat people using skill. Unless of course your true passion is bodybuilding, in which case steroids will certainly help you.

thanks alot chitown34 thats a nice advise you are right i am not trying to out muscle people and i would love to practise and improve my technique!true power in martial arts comes from technique!thats what i wanted to know!!

After watching the last two Matt Hughes losses, I’m convinced that more strength and size can only help. But you don’t want to go the Phil Baroni route and be a big guy without much technique.

Thiago’s strength advantage only mattered because Hughes has not developed his technique to his full potential (he never bothered to learn how to strike and his bjj is average) and has usually been the physically stronger fighter. He finally ran into opponents who were stronger AND more skilled (gsp and thiago) and got whooped. If the OP is serious about training MMA or a martial art, he needs to be focusing on technique and conditioning first and worry about strength later.

Looks like he’s already got the latter, he just needs the former. Of course, both take time to develop.

At 5’9" and 190 pounds you are at the upper limit of weight to height. With 15% bodyfat you are carrying almost 30 lbs (14kg)of fat. You could drop 15-20 pounds (7-10kg) of fat which would improve your bodybuild and your martial arts.

There are a lot of factors that go into making a good fighter, strength is just one of them. Size or more importantly build can affect agility, balance, the way you move, even the relationship of various parts of your body to each other. This is why you don’t see a lot of top fighters who are massively thick.

There are steroids that don’t add a lot of mass but the problem with them is they really tighten you up. Turinabol did that to me. After two months I felt like every muscles in my body was constantly flexed. To be a good fighter you need to be able to hang loose, that constantly being flexed up doesn’t help.

take more steroids to become super fast and strong like a superman

yeah maybe i can stop trains with my hands and jump over skycapers or even date lois!:>

Rhadi Ferguson got to the Olympics in Judo at 5’9" and without steroids. He won by being smarter and by focusing on holes in the techniques.

Nike sponsored an Olympic wrestler who did not use steroids.

Lots of people make it to the top of the competition in weight class sports in the United States without steroids, just FYI.

BTW, for what Ferguson has to say about his clients, strength and other issues:

http://www.thejudocrusader.com/2008/10/10/technique-really-isnt-that-important-or-is-it/

Now they??ve seen Taraje Williams-Murray win matches in Europe,
they??ve seen him beat the more technically sound Japanese player at
the Olympics, they??ve seen me beat numerous people that I had no
business beating but they attribute it to strength and athleticism.

Just silly!!

Anyway, interesting stuff.

Hey man I’m 18, 5’8 and 200lbs. I used to be into powerlifting, but I am fully engaged into Muay Thai.
You gotta train your technque. If you train hard for one year consistent. 3-4x a week classes, and on your sparetime practice. You’d be amazed at how well you can really get.

I do that, and train 3x a week lifting weights, and am still going to bulk to 215. If you plan on competing though, condition, condition, condtition. I don’t care how good your technqiue or how strong you are. If you are deeply fatigued, it is horrible.

I think you should lay off the roids though man. You have a solid base. You will look good and shed bodyfat from the conditioning and kickbox classes, and u can still fit in 3x a week lifting and gain strength. Just make sure your consuming enough calories to support all the activity your doing. I am upto 4500 cals per day. Lots of protein too.

i WAS on steroids a long time ago and not all of them were real but my great mistake was not dieting also i know i suck i am trying to lose a lot bodyfat i am about 15,5% any advise would be great!!i am thinking efedra (already am on albuterol)
