Steam Room Effects on EPOC

Hi All,

I normally end my workout with 20 minutes of HIIT and then sit in the steam room for about 10 mins. The reason I do the HIIT is for the calorie burning benefits of EPOC (Excess post-exercise oxygen consumption) and I was wondering if the steamroom effect on my body may interfere with it.

Thanks for any comments.

But Bushy, I thought you could sweat fat off?
;}

You’ve destroyed me.

Thats disgusting. Probably just build up of sweat/grime mixed with the dead skin cells that people are constantly exfoliating and the other crap thats excreted through the pores. I’ve heard that certain body toxins are excreted through the pores so its probably just builds up over time. Gross.

Whatever it was, it sure as shit wasn’t body fat which just goes to show how back-asswards or whatever else you’d like to call it, the “scientific” and “health” industry was not to long ago. I’m ashamed to say that I still think a large portion of it is still in the gutter.

i dont think 10 mins in a steam room will have any effects on EPOC.

If anything, I think its great.
Saunas and steam rooms are so relaxing for me. I feel my tense muscles just release any kind of stress I’ve built up.

Yeah, I also find the steam room to be very relaxing. Thats why I do it.

As for the extra stress on the body comment, I understand where you are coming from but I have to admit I always feel better after sitting in the steam room for a few mins after my workout.

Any other comments would be appreciated. Esp regarding EPOC.

Coach Thibaudeau wrote about intra workout sauna effects on growth hormone release, I think, in one of the Physique Clinic threads. Bartl’s or Nova’s, I believe.
