Just curious as to who on here happens to have a fusion in their spine and how they are able to stay active and healthy.
I for one had my spine fused at the L5-S1 around 3 years ago. Then around August of 2011 I was rear ended which totaled out my truck and seemed to send my health and back careening into a downward spiral.
During and after my fusion, I was laid up for 6 months before returning to work, I ended up packing on some serious pounds. I’m 5’8 and ballooned all the way up to 285lbs. Being that I was in such pain and needed something drastic to help relieve the pain and lose the weight I gained, I underwent the Lap-band surgery.
I’ve always had issues with controlling my weight, going anywhere from 230lbs in HS down to 185lbs 4 years ago then up to 285lbs, pretty much a yo-yo effect. Once going in procedure and getting on with my new way of eating I got down to about 230lbs. Then the accident happened. My joints, lower back and hips just feel terrible all of the time and I’ve been undergoing different procedures to try to alleviate the pain.
Mentally I want to get in there and hit the weights, tear into some punching bags or go for a jog around the block, but as of right now, it’s not possible. One day it shall be mine, oh yes, it shall be mine.
Ok, enough about me and what I’m going through. Has anyone else been down this road, or are currently going through something similar, and how did/are you coping with it? What have you found to work that’s low impact and keeps you mind centered on eating healthy foods. I confess, when I feel down or bored I eat and when I’m unable to work at and home 24/7 there’s a lot of eating going on, even with the lap-band.
