what is the proper technique doing static lunge ?
I know you step forward (i.e. your right foot)and go up and down without moving the right foot according to th T article. Is the forward step should be as large of a step as the dynamic lunge step or should you keep your step shorter ? thanks !
Your stance should be wide enough so the shin of your lead leg is roughly vertical in the bottom position. Likewise, in the bottom position the knee of the lead leg should remain somewhere over the foot and not travel past the toes. Check out ‘Limping into November: Part 1’ by Ian King for pictures of the static lunge.
Go with a nice wide step. You should have your knee lined up directly over your ankle at the bottom of the movement. If you can, touch off with your knee (back leg) at the bottom of the movement very lightly. If your range isn’t wide enough, you will feel more tension on the joint (knee)of the forward leg. Don’t forget a nice SLOW eccentric with this one. Good luck!
