I’m not dismissive of anything but the idea that there was some idyllic existence ruined by the White Man.
I’m honestly good with any restrictions desired on private property.
A LOT of times. The U.S. did some bad stuff to American Indians.

I’m purely speculating but it’s a similarity (their shared brutality) that i find intriguing
I saw that on the news and couldn’t believe it. I don’t know what’s more disturbing
about those idiots, their ignorance or the fact that their are granted enough power to make a principal resign.
Whats next, someone with a peeing boy statue in his garden is arrested for pedophilia?
I remember Kite Runner having a fairly graphic rape scene.
I think ascribing “ban” to the situation at hand is a bit of media play shading what really amounts to age appropriate access.
The dialogue isn’t centered around eliminating the books in question or their ideas totally from society as we have seen in a historical premise, but instead questions age appropriate exposure to certain topics. Like not including hardcore porn in elementary school libraries.
This is a healthy conversation. And frankly it belongs to the people with children in school, or those who have the ability to create them. Not special interest groups and detached ideologists.
I don’t see any issue with this one. The author has had some issues (sexual harassment iirc), but that doesn’t make the book bad. I think it’s one kids should read.
Much of the low test scores is simply because of a language barrier. Most of the teachers only speak English and most of the students have Spanish as a first language.
We moved to Florida to get away from the woke psychos. Getting our kids in schools that don’t sexualize children was a top priority! It’s funny how the left is fine with all of the media and internet companies censoring the truth but get all upset when the rest of us don’t want our kids subjected to toxicity and lies.
Let your kids be brainwashed if you want, most people I know support the banning of woke agendas.
I don’t think I’ll ever forget this article.
Or this one.
What’s “wrong” is the school is it’s heavily Asian.
From article: “ American Federation of Teachers president Randi Weingarten critiqued standardized testing Thursday — and specifically cited the racial makeup of heavily Asian Stuyvesant High School as an example of what’s wrong with the system.”
I’m 100% against banning books in the US, but I also don’t want my kids to have easy access to book that are not appropriate for their age at school.
Our solution was private school (not that that is full proof). Not sure how public schools should handle it.
Agreed
That’s fair. I would hope most school administrators would restrict a book like this, but I don’t know anymore.
The data doesn’t back up this claim. The test scores in FL show a rapid decline between elementary and high school. Did the kids suddenly get worse with English the longer they have lived here. Also, many states have sizeable immigrant populations. And the issue of immigrants, language and kids in school is hardly new to this nation. The difference is that in the past they didn’t have the same supports they have now. Yet, those non English speakers managed.
Used to be that you spoke your native language at home, then english everywhere else.
That was a long time ago though.
My kids are in school here and it’s definitely a problem. The language barrier I mean.
Florida has a very unique mix of Latinos that all speak a different dialect of Spanish. It’s unlike Texas where every Latino is from Mexico
We have them in a STEM school which has more math, science, and tech but it’s not much better. Daughter is having lots of trouble from the other kids because she is the only blonde headed, blue eyed, white girl in her grade.
Marco Rubio managed. If a child from another country can’t speak a new language within a year or two, the problem is on the child’s end.
I’m not familiar with Florida, but in Texas illegal immigrants skew test scores, college preparedness and graduation rates across all ages, because all ages immigrate here. And they’re not all Mexicans to an earlier comment. Nearly all of Latin America is represented.
There are standing “don’t tell” policies within school districts and ICE doesn’t raid schools, so you wind up with 3rd world educated 12 year olds integrating to the grade level that corresponds with their age more so than their academic ability. Otherwise, you would have 3rd grade classrooms full of teenage students.
While they are put on a remedial path, most never catch up, nor do they care too, because as soon as they are old enough they will drop out to work for a roof builder/painter et cetera to help support an extended family existence.
So, they don’t give a shit about academics while in school and show poor grades/test scores, they don’t go to college and they contribute to dropout numbers in a high degree.
None of this is denoted as special information to consider when rating Texas schools, and this is likely true in Florida as well.
Students born and raised in the Texas education system typically go on to one of many colleges here, many of them Tier One with top tier business/engineering/architectural schools when comparing nationwide, private schools such as Rice, SMU and TCU or out of state.
STEM is a major focus, and it shows in our local economy. Oil is still a leading employer sector and highly technical from engineering to chemistry, we are hike to largest med center in the world, NASA et cetera.
If there is a political slant to the education system, it’s how it is interpreted by democrats.
I still don’t get the reasoning behind drag queens reading to kids. On the one hand it seems like a way to normalize transgenderism but what do drag queens have to do with that? Isn’t the point behind drag queens that they are biological males in their off stage lives?
It makes perfect sense to have drag queens read to kids if you are an adult who seeks validation for your lifestyle or beliefs through the approval of innocent children.
It is also a new iteration of old communist indoctrination techniques. It is the American version of 2 + 2 = 5.
You have to say it, Winston. The Party requires it.
