It’s crazy how we went from kids watching Sesame Street and Mr. Rogers and Captain Kangaroo to making them watch drag queens and talking to them about sex. All kinds of sex.

Don’t forget Howdy Doody. First episode was aired December 27, 1947. Good ol’ Buffalo Bob and Clarabell the Clown.

Most kids still watch sesame st and Daniel tiger . There’s appears to be a minority of kids going to these drag time story hours … small bit vocal minority type of thing … results are still troubling

I’d be willing to bet in the next 5 years sesame st will have a transgender character and maybe a drag queen guest.

And Big Bird will inexplicably become a black woman.

They already had a drag queen.

honestly man, my kid has only watched reruns of the show from the 90s through 10s mainly b/c we don’t have cable and can only stream past episodes … I wouldn’t doubt if they already do but I haven’t seen it … most troublesome thing I’ve seen on the show was that bitch Ilana from Broad City plays Mr. Noodle’s sister in some sketches

Why in the absolute hell would that book be allowed in school.

I suppose it’s reasonable for an 8th grader tho, but below that nahhhhhh

Regarding free speech, the linked article highlights the other end of the spectrum from the OP… Books are mentioned, but specific assignments are the highlight. Same speech umbrella in any case.

Appropriate for a public school? Keep in mind, if the teacher in question had a private text message conversation modeled after his lessons with a student, he would likely be going to jail. So when does free speech cross the line to illegal sexuality, and at what point is sexuality an inappropriate conversation for children?

Basic biology reproduction chapters? The old fashioned coming of age puberty talk? Assigning homework for underage students to essentially create personal fantasy erotica for the teacher to grade? A dick in a dress reading books and by its very existence forcing thoughts about dicks in dresses?

When does literature become porn? The full bosoms described in Shakespeare? Hustler magazine?

This what happens when we neglect, or even demonize, cultural literacy and the Canon. Teachers feel free to teach whatever they want.
