This has been a big issue the past few years. Everyone’s heard dozens of different rumors about yes or no. In the books there’s a lot that happens after Ep.6 along quite a few different paths. Whether or not Lucas will do them nobody knows, but I’d like to think somebody will at least get the “ok” and a basic storyline to make the last three. If nothing else it’s got a rockhard fanbase who’ll continue to make box office records every time a new one comes out.

From what I’ve been able to gather over the years from the web blogs and interviews from Lucas is that he decided a LONG time ago (somtime between ROTJ and the development of Episode I) to release the rights to the story after ROTJ (Episodes 7-9 if you will) to all of the Expanded Universe writers. He realized how long it would take just to get through Episodes I-III and is ready to hang his hat.
There is a TV series in the works, but Lucas will have a much smaller role in that compared to his role in the prequels. I get the feeling from his interviews that he’s close to being totally fried with the level of commitment it takes to do one of these movies. Can’t really blame him, although I’d love to see some of the Expanded Universe books put to film.
The 20/80 suck to awesome ratio is almost correct. Its more like 30/70, but the bad is baaaaaaad and the awesome is some of the best shit ever.
Fucking droids.
Saw it last night at midnight. Special effects… Great! Story line… tied it all together. Acting by Anikin and Padime… Some of the worst I’ve ever seen. Mr. Lucas should have spent a little more time and effort on their lines and characters. It is the only downside to a great movie.
There were quite a few things that surprised me about how the movie went. I won’t mention them here so I don’t spoil anything. But I read the book over a month ago and had everything set in my head. Interesting to see how two people’s perception of the same thing differs. Great book too, gets a little deeper into certain things.
Hope all who read this take a chance and spend the little cash to see it, really is a great movie, whether you’re a fan of the series or not!

A friend sent these to me. These are still frames from the ROTJ final scenes. Take a look at what Lucas did. I haven’t seen the new dvds yet so I can’t verify.
I saw it last night at 12:01AM EST.
It was a good movie, a solid effort on Lucas’ part, but…Lucas is TOO reliant on flashy-action and technology. Somewhere he lost the ability to write good dialog.
Yes, he did connect most of the lines, so it does make the story feel complete, but it’s just not the same as the original three.
Someone please quote me a line from Episode I, II, or III. Guess what? you can’t…not unless they were recycled from IV, V, or VI
Overall rating B-
I can! I can!
“Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.”
Yoda my friends
Episode 1, and no I’m not a SW Nerd.
I just have a wicked good memory for quotes like that.
GAINER
iago thats a fucking trip
You guys are freaking me out. My best friend forgot to pick his daughter up from school this afternoon. Why? He was sitting in a movie theater watching this movie.
Different strokes…but geez ya’ll can get awful damned geeky over a movie.

Gotta say I agree with what conan’s saying, to an extent. The special effects were great, especially the light saber duels, they set the bar high with the ones in ep II, these were even better. The plot was OKAY, I just felt like they were rushing everything “ok, we HAVE to explain how they got from here to there, quickquickquick” but definitely very dark. The acting was adequate as well, not terrible but definitely not great.
Here’s the problem: to me, this should have been a character study. Personally, for me, this movie was all about motivation, how did anakin become darth vader. it woulda been stupid had it just been a “love of power” thing. It’s weird, they conveyed the conflict anikin felt but did it in such a poor way SPOILER, DONT READ FURTHER IF YOU HAVENT SEEN IT i thought it was a great idea that the whole reason he turns to the darkside is that he loves padme so much he wants to save her from death, but honestly, in return of the jedi, theres more conflict shown with Vaders looking back and forth from his son to the emperor to his son to the emperor - AND HE WAS WEARING A FREAKING MASK.
Here they have the whole movie to elaborate on the conflict -the damn near schizophrenia -that must be bubbling inside this young man who had been told for almost two decades that he is the chosen one and is now receiving conflicting advice from two sides he trusts. Had they done this, they could have really played up the whole bullcrap explanation that was given in Return of the Jedi, about vader “betraying and murdering anikin” instead of making it lucas’ way of covering his tracks when he decided to change a few things. It was all there, I guess I woulda just appreciated a little more focus.
I have to say, this may sound a little lame, but I was kind of depressed this morning. It’s sad, really, a love story that ends in tragedy, not dissimiliar (at least in a very superficial way) to Romeo & Juliet. They both love each other so much, all they want is to be together, and in the end she dies and Anikin becomes evil.
But overall, great movie. I cant get over the idea of Darth Vader as a charred stump underneath the mask and all.
I heard the speaking roles blew dogs for quarters. You would think lucas could hire someone for some decent dialogue.
KBC…
I would suggest reading the book if you’re really into the story. There’s a lot of things he had to get across in this one movie in addition to Anakin becoming Vader. The book goes into more detail about the situation with Palpatine and the senate and also the relationship between Anakin and Obi-wan. I had previously thought it was a mistake to read the book before seeing the movie, but you miss out on quite a lot relying simply on the movie to tell the story.
But I’m also a huge dork about SW so maybe that’s more than most people want to commit to it.
I just wished they’d shown Darth Vader (in the suit) doing something. Instead of just appearing and then nothing.
He should’ve been taken down by ben, suited up and THEN started killing jedi.
It was an okay movie but just okay. I give it a c+/b-. Overall the new trilogy doesn’t come close to the old, but that’s common knowledge these days.
And why did he feel the need to tie every loose end so tight? How long did it take to complete the death star, 30years?
Was a bit dumb like that. But they’re dumb movies that cool shit happens in.
Well I think the problem with the new trilogy is that he was trying to tell too many stories at once. The original trilogy focused mainly just on Luke’s rise to master and along with it the triumph of the rebellion. But in the new series he’s trying to tell the anakin/vader story, the anakin/padme story, the corruption of the senate story, the rise of Palpatine story, and separtist movement story, etc. If he had concentrated on just the vader and empire stories I think it would have gone a lot better. I don’t think he was able to put enough thought into any one part of the story to make it flow smoothly enough.

The official Episode III book? I thought it was exactly the same as the movie.

Same story, just more details.
Thanks for the heads up. I have someone in my life who wants to see this flick this weekend. Looks like we may have to find our way into the deal.
