Starting Out with the Snatch

Is there a particular stretch you would recommend for being able to do a full overhead squat?

I really want to be able to catch the bar low in my snatch, but can’t get nearly low enough while holding a bar overhead.

I have horrible flexibility, and am working on it all around, but was wondering if there is one or two I should be concentrating on to achieve this particular goal

Your best bet is to isolate where your overhead squat is breaking down, do general mobility work, and then more additional mobility work targeting the problem area. If you can do a full squat with minimal rounding than your problem might be in the thoracic spine or shoulders.

Are you using oly shoes? Usually it’s the ankles and the shoulders.

I stretch I do from time to time that is pretty simple is to lean into a wall with hands slightly overhead and let my shoulders move up and away (as my body moves in the other direction). I actually got the idea from my dog. He does it every morning. Too much information?

In full squat position, take a bar and push you knees down and out (individually). This will loosen up hip and ankles. Wil Fleming did an article about this recently.
