Starting Again After Injury

Hello,
First of all , I’ve been lurking for quite a while and would like to say this site is excellent! Great info and people!

I’m just now getting back into lifting after herniating a disk. Some moron at the gym bumped into me while I was doing squats. Shakes fist

I’m definatly a beginner to the iron game with only around a year of lifting under my belt. I had some pretty good gains before hurting my back. Just starting, I tipped the scales at around 135-140lbs at 5’7. Before the herniated disk, I was just over 170lbs. (basically gained around 35lbs in a year) and my lifts, though nothing special, saw major improvement.

As of now, post injury and pushing six months out of the gym, I’m hovering at 155lbs. :frowning:
All is not lost. My doc. has just given me the green light to squat an dl again, with light weight.
Side note: at the time I started lifting, I was also recovering from a compression fracture in my lover back from a fall. Sheesh. Nothing like back injuries to make you feel decrepet and fragile…all at the ripe age of 22.

Anywho, I’m now going to start lifting again. Previously, I had been doing full body 3x a week (3x8, then 5x5) which worked fairly well, and the Waturbury method -which I saw the best gains. Because of my back, I’m not sure If doing something like WM again is the best idea.

Basically all I’m really trying to ask in this long post is for some good advice for my situation on how to get back in the swing of things… gaining back the size and strength I lost while taking it easy with my back.
Lighter weight with higher reps for now? Maybe doing WM again, but going way easy on movements invoving my back? Any advice that would point me in the right direction would be most appreciated! Thanks!

anyone??

I have no clue what is best. I’m coming off of a back injury myself. I was just tired and stupid, rounded my back out before deadlifting 250lbs. Pulled a muscle maybe a tendon but it wasn’t bad enough to see a doctor as I could still walk and lift over 50lbs.

Last week I just did two sets of 15 reps with 135lbs for a few days, got my back sore, just trying to speed up healing and get it ready for more weight.

Young, dumb, and ugly. That’s me
