Standing Military Press Race to 300 or 250 or Whatever

Oh, jesus, I thought you pressed it. My bad.

Having never been much for working the overhead lifts in the past, and when I would, I preferred using dumbbells, I was shocked today when I lifted at home to find that I was MUCH weaker sitting down to military press. If I were to stand and press at home, I’d put the plates right into the ceiling…so I sit on the bench. I REALLY struggled to complete a triple with 155# this way.

hopefully, the decreased stability that I suspect is causing the weakness, will lead to more stress on the muscles doing the lift, even at a lighter weight and I’ll start seeing those numbers shoot up. If it’s not instability, I don’t know how to explain a 40# drop in strength in less than a week.

9/12
Pressed 250 today which is a PR for me.

Congrats! 250 is a big number. That’s getting close to bodyweight, isn’t it?

Nice!

235x4 - +1 Rep PR

Held my breath during the set and went fuzzy on rep 3. Held the rep up top to catch my breath. Without that pause and hold, 5 would have gone. Assuming I breathed properly, of course.

Oh, is this still going on? Hadn’t noticed, guess I’ll have to try some milies. That’s where you lift the weights over your head, right?

Nice PR Strick! You definitely had to work for it.

Thanks, SeaHag. I really want to throw some push press in there, to get used to the load. With my left shoulder constantly tweaky, though, I am wary of doing anything to jerky.
Must be patient! But oh how it is Driving me nuts.

Getting a little closer. 255x1 tonight.
