Standing and Leg Hypertrophy

Hi All,

Posting on Brick’s thread led me to think to solicit anecdotal or scientific evidence on this question:

I work an office job, and sitting drives me nuts. For long periods, leaves me feeling lethargic. I have opted for a standing desk. I typically stand and work from about 8:30a-5p, then sit down to work the evening.

My question is whether anyone has noted that longer periods of standing have a negative effect on leg hypertrophy. I feel as though I’ve been hindering gains by my insistence upon standing (sometimes when my legs feel a bit fatigued, admittedly).

Also, broadening this out a bit, I’m wondering if there are other “everyday” activities that any of you have found to have a negative impact on hypertrophy. Or, alternatively, (and somewhat tangentially) how much cardio-type activity is too much?

If anything it’ll undo the damage from always sitting (tight hip flexors, useless glutes, rounded back) that is so prevalent today. Standing is normal, sitting is the thing that’s detrimental to hypertrophy. As long as you aren’t just standing and still hanging out at the ends of all your ligaments (read: bad posture). Keep good posture and it’ll help more than hinder.

Disclaimer: I haven’t actually tried, just speaking from what I know/have read

No, standing up all day will not hinder your gains.
