I just started doing atg squats 2 weeks ago after doing wide stance for 4 years. my knees have been a little stiff on the days after squatting atg, so is that to be expected and should it go away after a few more weeks of getting used to it? its not really pain so it wouldnt stop me from doing it but since i play basketball a few times a week its more annoying then anything. also, since im an athlete atg is supposed to be better anyway right?

CT recommend ATG squat for athletes. In fact, in his money exercises article he states that high-bar close stance full squat is the only way an anthlete should squat. By the way, if you havent read this article yet, go readt, it’s really good.[/quote]

thanks Phil…i think kelly baggett said the same thing but i just wanted to double check…im in the middle of CT’s get vert program and thats when i started the atg squats…i like them and ive already gotten gains on jumping so i’ll probably stick to atg for a while…with the bouncing that was talked about at the beginning of the thread…wouldnt it be like reactive weight work??

Ass to the ground full squat.

I started doing ATG squats a couple of years ago. I really liked what that extra depth did for my legs, but eventually I had to give them up due to severe hip pain. Now I pretty much stop at parallel or slightly below.

Short squat story: Yesterday I was pretty pleased with myself after doing 315 for reps, when two guys half my age step into the rack next to me and proceed to squat 495 with perfect form. Humbling.

By the way, just thought i would mention something that has really helped my squats (and deads) lately: Orthotics.

the orthotics would make sense, it stops the arch in your foot from collapsing, interesting…

has anyone found the lifting shoes make a difference at all?
