Squats - Pushing With Toes

Thanks for all the help. I squatted today using the tips of curling the toes, chest up, and it did work I wasn’t leaning forward or pushing with the toes.

The only problem I had is the position of the bar. I put the bar high up on top of the traps, I tried it lower but it did not feel comfortable or right. Is there a video someone could post that demonstrates the placement of the bar?

Thanks.

There really is no one “right” position.

Even aside from how it affects balance and leverage, depending on range of motion there can be strain in holding the bar in a lower position. (Myself, I have to use a Manta Ray and even then just hook the bar with my fingers, but my ROM is terrible.)

From the PL’ing perspective, lower is better because the shorter lever arm puts less torque on the lower back, and perhaps other reasons.

From the bb’ing perspective, a comfortable position is fine no matter that it may be high, provided that a good overall form can be achieved.

Try a slightly wider stance, toes slightly pointed out in a comfortable position. Stick your ass out and lean forward like you’re going to sit on a little foot stool. If you still feel like you’re pushing with your toes, stick your ass out more until you feel balanced and flat footed.

This is EXACTLY how I squat.

I wonder why no one ever tried stuffing a 45 pound plate in the back of their trousers while squatting. More load for the legs, better form and better balance…you’re essentially doing a hip belt squat in addition to a regular squat.

Lately I’ve been pinching a 45 pound plate between my ass cheeks while squatting to solve this very problem.
