Squat Rack Curls II

Squat rack SHRUGS have become a regular plague in my gym now. I see it about twice a week.

Then yesterday I saw something REALLY strange. At least to me anyway. So… with five regular bench presses right around him and empty, this tool set the safety bars on the squat cage at about the third or fourth holes, wheeled a bench into the cage, set up the bar rests down low so he could use it like a bench press. He then proceeded to just drop the weights onto the safety bars every time he got to the bottom of the eccentric contraction making this ear splitting KLANG. So his sets were like KLANG CLANG KLANG KLANG. Then between sets he jumped up and looked around to make sure everybody was looking which they were because it sounded like he was hitting the thing with a sledge hammer.
Then when he was done, of course he just went on to the next thing and left the squat cage (my favorite piece of equipment) all kind of fucked up.

Now… I’m not exactly a stickler for following the directions, but that was just stupid wasn’t it? I mean why bother to do all that crap? What the hell was his problem? I am seriously puzzled.

Oh my god, I just watched this like, 10 times! Fucking hilarious!!!

Yesterday I saw a guy curling for two reps on the squat rack. He was doin’ the whole talk yourself up thing “Come on!!” and the grunting and yelling. I asked him if he was trying to max out and he was like “eh, kinda, I’ve done that weight before” I donno, can’t people just use the curling rack/bar??? I think he’s a frat boy at my university. And he stares at me like a wolf when he’s doing reps.

I’ve been seeing a lot of the smith machine shrugs also at my gym on base. Don’t understand it, but as long as they are not using the squat rack when I need it than I’m good.

Haha, the 45lbs plates by the squat rack, “maybe I left those there from last week.”

Haney shrugs require a smith machine…

…and Ronnie lunges require shades, a bright yellow shirt and golden yellow fitted pants.

damn yous all got shity gyms. at my place, all squat racks are for squats we only have a couple 1/4 squatters. and we have a room in our gym so we can get away from all the idiots out there: the powerlifting room! its pretty much my castle when im at the gym. im not gonna lie, i have done curls in the power rack in the powerlifting room, but thers no other oly bar i can use

I can see people doing haney shrugs on Smith Machine, but all I’ve seen Haney do, via pictures, is him doing them free weight style.

yeah - believe both are acceptable but since I have some junk in the trunk I need to use a smith machine(I also beleive in the superhero workout posted here they mention them being done in a squat rack).

there are worse things that can be done in a smith machine than shrugs

Well at my gym we have this guy in his late 30’s that curls in the squat rack.I have no problem at all with this as i curl in the squat rack when i need to.
The thing with this guys is he has sunglasses on top of his head and everytime he is due for another set of curls he puts his sunnies on and stares in the mirrir while doing his curls. As soon as his set is over he pops em back on his head.

Strange fella.

The gym is one of my favourite places of entertainment.Someone is always doing something stupid.

I bet this tough guy right here does some curls in the squat rack.

There is this old guy who comes to my college’s rec center, and he always does machines.

He doesn’t do full range of motion reps. He doesn’t do 1/2 range reps. He doesn’t even do 1/4 range reps. He does something like 1/20th of a rep. He barely pulls on the machine, and does it like a spaz. Dude also talks to himself too…

Makes it even weirder too cuz he stares at people and is a janitor in the building where my research lab is. haha

Bahahahahaha…what a beast…

Someone’s always using the Cable Crossover platform when I want to do weighted chins/pulls, so I have to use the power rack since it has a chinning bar and I always feel bad taking it up with chins.

Various weightlifting fails. Curling babies one is priceless.

holy shit!! that guy is freaking strong! i aspire to one day, be as strong as him

people will do every exercise under the sun for traps except deadlifts and rack pulls

Ok, at my gym, there is only one straight bar that is not on a bench, in a power rack, or squat rack. If that bar is taken, one needs to do straight bar curls, and and one of the above racks are open, why should it be frowned upon to curl at said station?

I have never understood this “OMG, dood is curling in teh squat rack” mania. Granted, if you have a choice between using a bar which is not dedicated to a compound lift station, then that would be preferable, but, why should the straight bar curl be given less priority in general? It is a good bicep exercise (one of the best IMO).

That might be the worlds most poorly equipped gym, then. Even the worst commercial gyms will have straight pre-loaded bars to 80 lbs or so. And besides that, we’re not talking about people using the last available option here. Every time I see someone curling in the rack they could have used one or more other straight bars made for curling (the short ones) and not taken up a station that people can not do anywhere else.

That’s why it pisses people off so much. I can’t squat anywhere else in the building, so I’m stuck, meanwhile Lord Douchebagington is throwing his back into full barbell curls with 55 lbs.
