Squat Rack Curls 3.0

x2

I was about to go for high box squat max. I told the guy I was going to pause at the bottom intentionally for a second or so. I told him to only help if I got stuck there for a bit longer. He ends up ā€˜helping’ some almost as soon as I touch the bottom. I’m excited because I thought I made the lift… then I ask him if he helped any and says yes… he saw the disappointment on my face and then said that much weight on my back sitting on a box will hurt my spine… I’m almost certain I would have had it if he didn’t help. By the way, it was only 365lbs. DO NOT BE THAT GUY!

I swear, as soon as anyone shows any signs of intensity in my school gym people start giving me bad vibes and sometimes even tell me I should be careful usually indirectly like above, but a couple times directly too… Only gym I’ve had this problem.

Anyway, moral of the story is do not help on a lift until the person really needs it. Shit… I even told him I was going to pause. I guess some people get scared for someone when they see them lift more weight than they’re used to seeing someone lift.

While I agree with what you said, you have to look at this part from another angle. Take a look at this thread and you’ll see lots of stories of people putting way more weight on the bar than they can safely handle and really fucking up. How many videos do you find on YouTube of people getting stapled to benches or dropping like a stone after getting the bar off the hooks and start to squat? If he saw you descending to the box somewhat quickly, he might have thought you wouldn’t have been able to handle the weight.

Of course I could just be being overly charitable and he was just an overzealous douchebag who robbed you of a PR.

In other news, I was benching earlier today and there was this one fairly cute girl doing something with dumbbells. I’m in the middle of a set and I hear her making this moaning sound. I realized after that it was a sneeze, but it sounded like she was getting plowed by some guy. Needless to say it threw off my concentration a bit. She did her sneeze moans a few more times while she was there. Luckily she didn’t do any during my last workset.

In this case, you could be THAT guy.

alright… yesterday i was resting between sets. some guy came up to me and said ā€œit only hurts for a bit and then it feels goodā€, and then he walked away.

what the hell kind of thing is that to say to someone. how come people say such weird things to me in the gym??

Because you’re a chick.

I’ll be lifting at a commercial gym for the next week so I’ll have some gems to share soon.

Until then, I’d like to draw your attention to something I came across while jumping channels:

It’s a German love/drama BS telenovela and a plot point is that one of the characters starts with teh roidzz. So he breaks open a vial of test, pours it into a tall glass of water and drinks it. Just like in real life…

this could be its own thread all by itself in SAMA

I have to agree with this to a point.

I’m one of 3 girls in the gym who lift heavy, so the guys pretty much always make sure that I don’t dive into the floor. I rather the concern than getting hurt.

One guy actually watched me squat 140 lbs for 5 sets today then asked if I needed help taking the 45 lb plate off the bar. I laughed but I know I get special treatment because I’m a female. But I don’t take offense since I know that I’ll always have help when I need it.

In my case, I think it was the spotter. It’s just that gym in general really. Any hardcore lifting, unless it’s bench press is frowned upon in there. It’s the type of place where no one squats heavy anywhere near parallel.

Guy using the HS shoulder press to do hanging leg raises. He supported himself on the handles raising himself in the air… ignoring the perfectly decent two stations next to him which he could do this exercise.

Also the trainers at my gym have started to get all their clients squatting. Good yes? Except except. They put the safetys in the power cage up to the guy’s chest tell them to bring their knees forward and bodyhug him the whole way. So the PTs in my gym are effectively telling everyone to do quarter squats. Maybe progress?

That’s a good attitude to have. As long as they aren’t grabbing your ass or anything, it’s best to just look at the positive side of the attention. If you ever get into a fight with a squat-rack-curler you’ll have the whole gym backing you up!! Not that I think you’d need it

No, they just mouth out things like ā€œDamnā€ and look at my ass like they don’t have mirrors in the gym.
The squat rack curlers in my gym come in groups of 3-5. I doubt that I’ll be able to handle it solo  I don’t mind them though, they’re sweet and if I need to squat, they gladly let me use the rack when I need it.

Had my own SRC moment at the gym a few days ago.
Was working up to a 5rm on floor press. On my second heavy set on my second rep as I locked out the weight I blacked out. Came too right as my elbows hit the ground, took a breath and finished my last 3 reps.
F@#$ I’m uncoordinated I can’t even breath right. haha. Did end up getting a PR though.

Freaking Beautiful man, Gotta love it when others realise thier choice of friends embarass them and they need to make a change lol.

I should have left it alone…

I berated him, his shitty form, and his stupid friends to the point that gym personnel felt the need to intervene.

One of those stupid friends of his became a buddy of mine after that though. Go figure…[/quote]

University gym: Asian guy comes into the locker room talking on his phone while curling a colored dumbbell… I couldn’t help but stare.

Yesterday…LA Fitness

A hyper middle aged guy about 6’2 170lbs is wearing a t-shirt that says ā€œlife comes at you fastā€, and is making enough noise on a lat raise machine to scare somebody in the locker room.

It wasn’t a grunt though. If I wouldn’t have seen him I would have thought it was Macaulay Caulkin from the first Home Alone.

It didn’t even phase me…

Got to see a Marine doing single arm tricep pushdowns on the cable machine…his ā€œfreeā€ arm was occupied with his phone, texting.
