Squat Rack Curls 2011

Last night a guy I know from work and the gym told me that I used to be chubby and now look leaner. I think he meant it as a compliment but that’s not how I took it! The only word that stuck in my head was chubby.

Are you sure he didn’t say you were giving him a chubby?

Here’s a first, saw a guy standing over the seated triceps push down machine and he was doing a shrugging motion with locked elbows I have no fucking clue what he was doing, and after the set he was stretching his neck out like he had done shrugs and his traps were sore.

Hahaha god dammit

Theres this guy that always comes into my gym with a cut off shirt that is half way up his stomach. He always grabs too heavy weight of dumbbells and does the bicep swing curls.

I saw 3 college age kids come into the gym. they looked decent (not fat or super skinny) and i guess one of them was “training” the other two. Their first exercise? standing on an upside down bosu ball DB bicep curls and lateral raises. the next one? some sort of burpee/good morning/front squat with terrible form. then they went to the cardio equipment.

A funny thing happened last night. I was doing my squat complex training in the afternoon (I did the overhead pressing training in the morning) and i finished with the lifting part, then i set up my “sled” to pull the weights for eccentric-less training. I loaded up some 45s and was walking backwards pulling them (to target the quads and calves). There is a guy that I talk to sometimes that’s pretty cool that saw me out of the corner of his eye. I was resting between rounds and told him “you’re next”. he looked at me and said “nah man, you work out way harder than I do. I’m in it for ‘the pretty’, I’m not into all of that hardcore MMA work and crap…”

Got to squat in the smith machine today because some jackoff was doing rack pulls in the cage (the only cage we have) for an hour. I should say the rack pulls took about 10 minutes, the resting in between sets and talking to people was the other part of the hour.

Hhahahaah god dammit

Earlier this year:

TeenBencher101: Are you going to Michelle’s party tonight?
TeenCurler2011: Yea, its fancy dress, I’m gonna go as a cowboy…
TeenBencher101: Nice, you got a hat or gun?
TeenCurler2011: No! I don’t want to look too cowboyee…

Last week:

Part time lifter Guy: Dude your ripped! What body fat are you?
Modest, looks like he could be a good amateur bodybuilder Guy: Thanks, about 10%.
Part time lifter Guy: No, No you gotta be closer to 1-2%

Recently:

Guy I use to respect: Can I have a spot?
Really cool, handsome, overly muscular and ripped Guy (Ok me): Yea sure…
(Follows 60 seconds of spotting…on db curls…I was shocked and didn’t know what to do rather than spot him…and watch people look on in condemnation…now I wear headphones…

Today:

Realised that my db power clean would pass for a db curl with most guys in the gym.

Guy doing bench press with weight only on 1 side of the bar, so basically benching with 1 arm at a time and stabilizing with the other arm. Then he moves weight to other side and does other arm.

My mainstream gym actually has a deadlift plaftorm and a deadlift jack. On day I wanted to use said equipment, however there was somebody already there. He loaded up the barbell with 10 lbs on each side, picking the bar off the jack, doing his 10 curls and putting the bar back on the jack. Asked him if he coudld move.

Deadlifting 225 for reps. 14 year old skinny small kid (bro)benching 100 approaches me and: “You shouldn’t lift that heavy. You will stunt your growth and injure yourself”.

Lolwut?

There has been a guy who, in the last couple weeks, has started to workout at the same time as me. He is a lifter / shadowboxer. He’ll do a crappy half-assed lift and then proceed to shadowbox or “punch for reps” while looking at himself in the mirror.
For some reason, it really annoys the crap out of me. It was funny at first, but now it is just distracting, as he doesn’t even do it out of the way, he will do it anywhere in the gym, even right next to you.
Is my annoyance justified, or do I just need to lighten up and laugh at him and move on?

We have two of these guys at my gym, however one is a professional kickboxer and an incredibly nice guy. He will go off into the corner, or in the event it’s busy, just lift and GTFO. The other “gentlemen” wears tap out and well, I guess you call it shadow boxing but he does it after he finishes whatever exercises he says fighters doing on TV. These exercises, much like his shadowboxing, is re-tah-did

Moral of the story, you don’t need to lighten up. Boxing/MMA gyms exist for people who want to box, the gym is for lifting weights.

Maybe I’ll stand right next to him and start boxing too. We can have a shadowboxing mirror royal rumble.

Oh yeah, and he wears Vibrams but never does any lower body exercises which would require vibrams. I want to compliment him on his shoes and how I’m sure it helps him with his crappy incline press or his pull ups where he only goes halfway down and not all the way up.

I didnt witness this but its a pretty solid fail

Had some skinny middle aged guy following me around today, doing the exact same shit as me. Tried to do the same sets, reps, weight and rest intervals. Only time he pissed off was when I did my weighted hanging leg raises and GHR’s.

Thought it was funny but pretty damn annoying.

Was my easy day - DE squats with other shit. Seemed like max effort for this dude.

wow. I’ve never seen or heard of that happening before, good find. I never have liked squatting in half racks before…chalk one up for power racks!

Not quite Squat rack curls put pretty funny.

must be
JESGPY: nice article. I do something similar to the shovel deadlift for benchpress. does wonders to my core and shoulders. Gonna try it with DLs today
