I seem to be “growing” what my wife jokingly calls a “squat knot” at the top of my spine/base of my neck, where the pad on the bar rests when I do squats. It has gotten pretty solid, and is really starting to stick out.
It’s not painful, and does not seem to be causing me any problems…but is this normal/okay? Am I doing something wrong with my lifts that could be causing this?
I’ve been in the iron game for a long time and I’ve never heard of anyone having this kind of problem. You are using a pad on the bar when you do squats? That seems even more strange that you would have that problem since you have thick padding on top of the spine. Are you thin and lack muscular development in your upper back? I’m not a doctor, but you may have a cyst in that area of your spine that is unrelated to lifting. Go have a doctor check it out.

You sure its not the T-1 vertebrae? Mine is prominent, and that is right where the bar lies when doing high bar squats.[/quote]
He is 5’6" and 245. I’m 6’1" 255 and I don’t have a noticable bump at my t1. He also said it is “growing” even if it is his t1, and it is noticably growing he should probably see a doctor because it might be laying down calcium deposits on just the outside of the vertebrae, but it might also be laying down deposits all around the vertebrae.
