Squat different in AUS?

Indeed!

I dunno about the rest of Australia but my stance is probably only a bit wider then that. I squat raw and only have a slightly wider then shoulder width stance that allows me to hit depth every time. I think it’s all down to personal preference and as Hanley said when comparing it to the 1000lb+ multi ply squats it is pretty narrow.

by descending that fast, it is easier to get back up. both the stretch reflex in the muscles, and the elastity in the single ply material will help with this.

I get the stretch reflex, but here’s my naive question - is there a greater risk for injury? Controlled descent minimizes risk, fast descent …?
Competitive powerlifters are only concerned about how much they can lift. Even if the way they do it is more risky, they will still do it.

Well stallion has a point, but there isnt much chance of injury as long as you stay in your groove. I used to be a dive bomb squatter, and my squat was much weaker than it is now because I would go down fast, use my bounce, then I would get all out of groove and end up goodmorning the weight to lockout. Now I use a monolift and a very wide stance

I didn’t think the descent looked overly fast tbh…

His shoulder flexibility however… wow.
← I was kind of afraid that the bar would fall down behind him, taking his arms with it
Seriously, that bar position was scary.

Mikhail’s style/high bar works much better for my shoulders…
