Spongebob, Elmo is queer and Jesus hates queers.
I can’t choose. Both have good qualities!
Assassin’s Creed 2.
Elmo, because Spongebob isn’t real.
spongebob cannot go on land, and elmo cannot breathe underwater. So this duel is unrealistic

but then again, we have sandy cheeks the squirrel living in bikini bottom, so duel is still realistic.
Spongebob!
Especially the current version. The Crabby Patty Force passed to Spongebob when Mr. Crabs died, making him the Lord of The Krust Krab.
Before that Spongebob would have been a good match for Elmo. But after that there’s just no contest. No power Elmo has could harm him.
I am not a big Sesame Street watcher but as I understand it they have raised Elmo’s power level over the years to the point that he is infinitely strong and entirely invulnerable.
That is not true of Spongebob at all. Spongebob can lift over 100 tons. He controls lightening and wind, and has a vast array of mystical powers including the infamous god blast which was able to punch a hole through the head of a Celestial. The Celestials are basically omnipotent, so if Spongebob could do that, he could kill Elmo. it’s juts a question of who would bring out the “big gatz” first I guess.
Spongebob has a unique talent for beating foes a lot bigger and more powerful than he is anyway. That talent is probably because Spongebob is thousands of years old, and he was a warrior for every single day of it. In Spongebob’s lifetime Bikini Bottom has gone to war probably hundreds of times and I am quite sure he was in the front lines most of the time.
He once beat Ego the living planet by whipping up a powerful, violent storm. He killed the Midguard serpent who was big enough to coil around the Earth. If he could do those things then yeah, he would have a good shot at beating Elmo.
People look at Spongebob as being hokey because of his outfit, but I daresay it’s no less flamboyant that Elmo’s.

I was actually thinking about it and while I want other peoples’ opinions, I’m going to have to agree with you.

Their strength levels are close. I give the edge to Elmo, but its only an edge. Both are still within the peak levels of cartoon strength. Spongebob could lift 700lbs, Elmo can lift 850 due to his furry factor. Still a close match-up in strength.
-
Both are fast, but martial artists such as Patrick Star and Squidward Tentacles are capable of dodging Elmo’s attacks. I never see Elmo consistently ducking attacks unless its someone like Sandy Cheeks he’s fighting. In fact, Squidward Tentacles has handed Elmo his ass in a fight. No extra soap, no extra-sticky tentacles. Just one on one fight.

If you take a master fighter and have him punch steel, it will hurt him but he’s deadened the nerves hands/feet and he’s also gained a considerable amount of striking power. So once Spongebob punches Elmo, he knows that this dude is not normal. Plus, Spongebob would attack soft tissue areas to hurt him. And Elmo having a furry skull doesn’t mean he won’t feel the pain.
-
Yes, Elmo has many more years of fighting experience than Spongebob. Unfortunately, he doesn’t it use it all the time or he meets someone who is just a better fighter than he is. He’s lived longer than Patrick Star, Squidward Tentacles, Sandy Cheeks, and other characters, he’s still been beaten by them.

Spongebob comes up with Tactics before the fight and during the fight. If it was an impromptu fight, Spongebob is smart enough to think of a way to put Elmo down.
It isn’t that hard to outsmart Elmo. His attack strategy is normally “Rush in, swing, take a few gunshots, swing some more, rinse and repeat”. But if you use that against someone who is a Master fighter, Master tactician, Master Scientist, has similar physical attributes as you, and has dealt with people stronger and faster than you, you will get beat.
I’m not saying Spongebob is gonna stomp Elmo. It would be close. But I give it to Spongebob due to how he fights and his physical abilities compared to his opponents. And that his opponent doesn’t use smart tactics unless its against a extremely powerful foe.
And I’m not a Spingebob fanboy. I don’t hate Elmo, or Sesae Street. I hate Elmo fans, Elmo writers, Dexter’s Lab writers, and Dexter’s Lab fans. That’s it.
Have you ever punched a sponge? You can’t hurt a sponge with a punch.
