Split Routines

Who does them, who doesn’t, and why/why not?

I haven’t done them in a long time, but I’m getting tired of doing full body, multiple times a week routines, and have also been getting a little tired of doing my Westside inspired routine.

I miss doing the body-part split routines I used to do, and I got good results with them, then they got a bad rep for a while so I stopped.

The Westside inspired routine has given me results that I’ve never gotten before, but I get burned out with it, and just bored of it.

Back when I used to do 4 sets of 4-6, only with 1-2 body parts a day, once a week, I also got very good results. I would also change up my set/rep scheme as well as excersises every 8 weeks or so and that made it less boring.

I never really got great results from full-body routines.

U got results from bodypart splits but u stopped because they go a bad rap??
Dude why did u stop? because some people say full body is better? Do what works for u!
If someone tells me eating razor blades is better for cleaning out my system better than a fibre supplements im not about to go out and buy razor blades.

Go back to your split routines since u had your best results with them.

Good luck mate

The Westside type did well for me, but full body routines have also.

The last time I tried a true bodypart split was before I found this site, and so I realize now that I wasn’t eating nearly enough (not too mention sleeping) in order to make any decent gains.

I’m on Waterbury’s TBT now and I dig it, but I’m beginning to get a little bored (I’m on the second cycle of it) and thinking about going back to a westside type program. Ironic, because I never wanted to remotely be like a powerlifter, but after training like that for about eight months and watching my maxes jump, I find I’m dying to get back to heavy triples.

There’s something to be said for both of them. Intensity plays a larger part than anything else, I think.

In my youth I was a big fan of full-body routines.

About a month ago I switched from full body to a “westside for bodybuilders” style split. Two upperbody workouts and to lowerbody workouts a week.

I noticed a change almost immediately, my wife said my chest arms and thighs look bigger.

I am joining a better/more equiped gym tomorrow and I am will be starting my first ever split routine.

I am thinking:

day one: Legs
day two: shoulders
day three: back
day four: chest
day five: arms

I agree with the concept of doing whatever works for you.

I personally like to mix things up between full body/splits…both have pros/cons. I like the full body workout because its simple and efficient. Further, if there is only one exercise per part, I can give that exercise my all. However, I usually prefer splits because I get bored easily and like doing multiple, different exercises per part to help me focus. I also enjoy learning new exercises…becomes a great hobby. On the practical side, its nice that only one or two body parts are going to hurt the rest of the day as opposed to the whole body being crippled! Makes it easier to run errands and go to school, lol.
