I gave those Kroc rows a try. Do you strap them? I feel my grip crap out before my back.

My grip goes too, but what I have been doing is wrapping my wrists really tight with wraps like this:
http://www.inzernet.com/detail.asp?PRODUCT_ID=WRAPS_IRON_WRISTZ
I make a fist and wrap the wrist as hard as I can. It turns fish-belly-colored, but it also tightens the tendons to keep the fingers curled. I chalk up, and the wrap and chalk allow me to do the rows. I also re-set my grip if need be during the set. I find that at the top of the row, I can almost re-tighten my grip due to the DB’s momentum.
I don’t use straps because I generally avoid training with anything that I can’t use in competition.
Well that’s an interesting tactic. So I assume you can use these wraps in competition? I’ve seen them in bench videos. What are they for? My gym isn’t too keen on chalk but I won’t have to put up with that for long.

Wrist wraps are legal in USAPL, including in raw competition. I historically used them wrapped slightly loose to brace my wrists for squats and benching, and only recently started using them for grip assistance after reading a thread on them over in Strength Sports.
My gym hasn’t ever said anything about my chalk, I just clean up really well. One of the dudes who works there is a competitive PLer, so I think they are cool with me.
there is a decent thread in combat sports about grip right now
its super important in grappling- mine is very strong- from
hookgrip and years of wrestling & judo.
I have found pull ups with tennis balls to be the most helpful
Kroc Rows a close second.
put the balls on the top of the bar
I think I need to check out some wraps- I notice one wrist always caves in on bench.

I’ve been climbing a bit lately and think that is the best thing I’ve done for my grip. It gives me Popeye forearms!
Yesterday, went hiking and bummed around Rocky Mountain National Park for a few hours. Today, sprints, squats, or bloody marys. We’ll see.
It’s my last week of my 20s!
I posted this in Meat’s feedback thread:
Squats (max raw is 285):
225:
245:
Bench (max raw is ~170):
155:
155 #4:
Tips etc. appreciated!
I did some pullups and dips in addition to the squats and benching. Yay!
Oh, and yes, I realize I’ve been cutting the squats high. Time to be more diligent with the videos!
Fantastic Benching PMPM great set up and great arch.
squats look solid as well, and who does not need work on depth- they are not that high.
Climbing is fun… good for you.
I am rocking the popeye forearm look no matter what I try, my forearms are the size of my upper arms
at least visually,
kmc
squats aren’t too high, but I think what will help is dem elbows…
I’ve been working on this too! I keep them almost perpendicular to the floor…so much so, that they touch the top of my quads, and then on the way up, I drive them forward…
I haven’t been squatting too long(about a year), so I’m hardly an expert…but I’ve been really focusing on the tips about elbows/chest up and it’s helping… A LOT!!
another funny thing, is that to me it looks like you get greater depth with the heavier squat…and your stance looked wider too…the only thing is that your boo-tay rises before your chest…but driving the elbows forward will force the chest up automatically, and this will help…
Try it! ![]()
Double dog dare ya! ![]()
nice job!!!
Today, I deadlifted up to a missed single at 305…grrr…then 1x275, 0.5x275, 3x5x225, 5x135 (fucking the bar and thinking of SteelyD!). I think I talked myself out of the 305 because I felt 295 in my back. It went up pretty slowly, and I had to tell myself “ass and legs, no back!” during the 12 minute ascent.
then, 3x10x40/side DB snatches
3x5x70 BB snatches
4 minutes tabata method squats (overhead and back). I was toasted!
Oh, and I finally got my 2008 Pearl Jam Christmas Album. They are worse at getting gifts out on time than me!

SteelyD’s going to get a big head but I sure do think of him when I do dead’s. One day I’m going to do a really fucked up video for him for his cowboy hat one.
btw, I like snatches too. There’s something about the speed and dynamism of them. They are explosive. Do you ever video yourself doing them? If so, I’d like to see.

I haven’t ever video’d my snatch, I’m sure my snatch is really ugly.
I never tire of these jokes.
I’ve videod my snatch before… it wasn’t as pretty as some out there…but still got the job done, haha!

Strangely enough, neither do I. It’s like I never got older than 12.
MIM, I just about wet myself at your comment. I haven’t really examined my snatch that closely in a while. Neither has anyone else. But, like you, it gets the job done. Such as it is.
Seriously though, if you ever do video the lift, I’d love to see ![]()
I love db snatch. 1/2 bw is a good goal. I’m going to get up a vid when I get 60.
Do they help anything in PL or do you just do them for fun?
