Spasms Cause Permanent Damage?

Not sure what’s going on here. In March, I had severe spasms in my triceps, lats and pecs on my right side. I figured I had something going in in my c-spine. I went to chiro and even tried acupuncture. Spasms were horrible, almost constant. They lasted over 3 weeks.

Fast forward to present day… I went back to the gym for the first time since my spasm episode. I did my usual light warmup, some tri extensions to activate my tris, some seated rows to open up my chest. Prior to my spasms, I was able to bench 315 3 sets of 5. .
Today I started at 225 for a warm up and I had to have it pulled off my chest. I dropped down to 135 and could only manage 5. It was my right side that just wasn’t working. I just can’t seem to make my right pectoral contract with any force.

Could I have nerve or muscle damage from spasms? Is this possibly neurological and will resolve itself quickly if I reestablish the mind/muscle pathway? Pretty concerned right now. Any thoughts would be helpful. Has anyone ever experienced this or heard of this? Thanks for reading this mess.

This is pretty common around here. You jamb up your neck then one of your arms gets all weak. It’s alarming and frustrating.

I think you’re on the right track, if you can re-establish the mind/muscle pathway you’ll be on the right track. So practice getting your pec to work.

Just be careful doing big, compound moves without your pec working properly. You don’t want to develop some weird front delt and neck dominant bench press style.

Thanks much. I found a couple of other threads discussing the same issue. Some recover in weeks, some much longer. I’m not freaking out anymore. It does tell me why I am hitting softballs and golf balls so poorly this season.
