Helllls yeah. Your upper back and your lats are crucial to a strong bench press if your form is correct. You use your lats at the bottom of the press to push the bar off your chest. Before you even begin the lift, you should tighten your upper back, squeeze your shoulder blades together and engage your lats throughout the entire movement. As soon as your lats go loose, you’ll lose your power to push back up.

I only have it after long breaks but yeah it is like was said.
yup yup!
i squeeze the shit out of my lats on the decent and use all that like a spring recoiling in a gun to pop it off my chest.
i’ve also hurt my lower back a bit from lifting my ass and twisting a bit, dont’ do that.

x3. Had to use a heating pad after my last max effort day.
Sometimes my back gets spastic when doing reps with an arch.
