Just wondering what solid meals have been chosen by V-dieters. I’m currently on the V-diet. Today is my 1st solid meal day. I’m thinking about having a mixed green salad with 1/2 tbsp of flax oil made into a salad dressing with some balsamic vinegar. A skewer of fake beef (yes, I am vegetarian) a piece of cheese and some steamed broccoli. What do you think?
i do a salad, with just olive oil and crushed red pepper. and then do some nice grilled red meat. cooked on the rarer side. nice and red and juice.
id try to avoid the balsamic, and i have no idea whats in your fake beef? tell us the break down of the fake beef please.

okay… so no balsamic. Fake beef= soy protein, which i know is “bad”. Maybe some chick peas instead? Im just trying to think of a high protein source for vegetarians to substitute for soy products.
all my protein sources are meat based. i would have to say maybe some nuts? or do u eat eggs?

Yes i do eat eggs, maybe some eggs then and the salad.
Some soy protein isn’t going to kill you. The research is really mixed on the subject, but some soy protein or legumes should do the trick. The problem with going to eggs or nuts for the protein is the high amount of calories from fat.
A soy HSM on the V-Diet is fine because it will be the only real soy you will take in all week, so go for it; it isn’t like your only protein source is soy. I try to avoid it, because I don’t think we quite understand the risks involved with it yet. But, in your case, using soy protein for you HSM will be ok. Your HSM looks good to me.

awesome thanks! I did decide to go with the soy, lower calories, higher protein. It was all very delicious.
I don’t believe soy is as a big of a problem for girls, anyway.

It all depends on the amount, but soy can have negative effects on women as well as men.

Balsamic vinegar is great stuff.
Why would you avoid it?

Seconded. There’s nothing in balsamic that you should avoid on the V-Diet or any diet.
The phytoestrogens that are in soy usually don’t cause to many issues for women, but there is some research that shows it can, especially with high intakes. For now we have to wait until there is more research on the subject and proceed with caution.
For what it’s worth, this guy seems to know his stuff, and offers some protein options for the veggies among us. There are some more links at the bottom of the article, too:

Thanks, good article. I just hate eating too much soy.
