What is the best way to develope endurance for soccer

i was wondering what you guys would suggest to build up endurance for soccer.

Would you suggest intervals or just doing miles and miles of jogging. i was thinking splitting them up by doing a 30 minute run 1 week and then the next do 4 400’s or so just trying to buildup. With a work:rest ratio of 1:1.

Do you think this is the best way to build up endurance or would you choice something else like fartlek runs.

My week generally looks like this tell me what you think.

Monday- practice
Tuesday- game
Wednesday- practice
Thursday- game
Friday- rest
Saturday- endurance
Sunday- light jog

Light jog consists of 1.1 in about 11 minutes

Endurance is 4.4 miles in about 30 minutes

Ball skills are done daily really easy day before game (20 minutes)
Day during game same duration (after game)
Saturday and Friday 2 sessions each day for about a half in length
For ball skills all I do is cones and juggling on 20 minute days and cones juggling and moves on 30 minute days

thanks

play more soccer

seriously though, to simulate a soccer game during training, throughout the week try a mix of slow & long runs integrated with interval training sessions using shorter distances of say 100/200m.

You’d do better with intervals. Soccer itself is essentially interval training from a cardiovascular standpoint.

‘Miles and miles’ of jogging are A) catabolic (you’d lose muscle), and B) a joint strain (soccer’s no fun with shin splints).

I actually wouldn’t suggest either. With the amount of soccer you are playing, you should have good enough endurance shape. Just play more soccer if you don’t.

What you need to work on is your max sprints and agility if you want to become dominant. HIIT is an option but I’d rather see a max sprint:rest protocol. Also, do you do any weight training?
