What are you like 20 something? Don’t worry about it as it happens to all of us. You get hyped up on the preworkout, have a killer session and see all the little people lifting little weights at the gym. You get caught up in your own hype and you make a topic like this. We’ve all had bouts of mental vacation. Take solace in knowing that it happens less and less as you get older (usually).
FYI- I think most of the people on this site pre exhaust with 225 on bench.
Lastly - love to see a vid of your 405 bench. We have similar BW/Hgt and I’m lucky to hit 405 for a couple of reps. I could really use the motivation to get over the hump. My last max on squat was only 505lbs x 5 so you got me feeling pretty weak.
Dude, if you put on the weight he has, you could probably hit it too. He was as heavy as nearly 260lbs before he got scared and starved himself down to 240 because his waist hit a whopping 34" or something.
He comes across much like you did as well…ie, has great potential but is surrounded by weak average people so he doesn’t push to see where his limits really are.
I see what you did there - and I’ll take almost anything for motivation.

PM sent so as to not Hijack Conan’s thread.

PM received…and I will say it again here in front of everyone. You have great potential to make that kind of progress in only 3 years. Most here can not do that. If you trained around more serious lifter, you would freak some people out within a couple year’s time.

MM, when you say six minute mile do you mean 6:XX or do you mean =or<6.00? I can believe 6:45 or something but 6:00? I need more convincing.

anything under 7 minutes is technically a “6 minute mile”… more appropriately named a “sub 7 minute mile”
Either way, I knew a lot of really in shape guys who lived for running who were barely making that in the military.
true. a 6something mile is quick… especially if you lift weights and look like you lift weights. If you’re over 200lbs you’re moving out to get a 6something mile.
Just wanna say fuck you to all the guys around here repping 225 with ease. Now, the deadlift is another story. who can’t rep out 315 for 10. Shit, I can do 315 for prolly 20 or 25. Benching I could do 225 for maybe 6 to 8 reps.
Hey, I just remembered it’s National Chest and Bench Press Day. Everybody report back tomorrow to see what level you are at
OP,
If you read some of the logs on this site, you will notice that there is alot of ‘strong’ people.
Bodybuilders, powerlifters and recreational lifters.
OP, I would call myself a recreational powerlifter too, which is why I have no idea why you used 10 rep sets to categorize strong.
FTR, I think intermediate on this site is 3/4/5. Advanced would have to be 4/5/6 or more.
As to your lifts, I’m following your log, but I want to see some vids too. You reported a 395 max bench but you are claiming to easily hit 405 now without actually having done it? Speaking from experience, there’s a colossal difference between 395 and 400 if you’ve never done 400. As for your squat, 455x10 is damn good, but by no stretch of the imagination does 455x10=600x1. Hell, if you don’t train heavy then 500x1 may be an issue for you. 650 is also a huge deadlift, and even though I’ve seen guys thinner than you deadlift 600, it’s something that we need to see proof of. Take some vids if for nothing else than to check your form. Even if you have a mirror your squat needs to be seen from a side angle, especially if you don’t have lifting partners constantly checking your depth.
Yes, of all the people in my gym - I know two that are stronger than me; and they seem to come out once in a blue moon. The rest I have no fucking idea what they are doing. I did alot of shit talking on here. I’ll attempt 405 on bench WITH A VIDEO, shooting for March 1. Can’t imagine why I won’t get it. When I maxed on 395 I was on one of those thin benches and had to balance way too much.
i’m a p.e. teacher and three times a year during physical fitness testing i run the mile with the kids to show them that my fat ass can actually move pretty quick. i can still run the four quarter my laps on my track in 6 minutes.
According to an old TC shtick, you’re just a fat guy with great forearms.
Actually, this applies to anyone without a visible six pack.

It’s not my opinion, though.

i think a lot of people would be amazed at what i can actually do outside of just lifting a bar. i’ve been a p.e. teacher for 11 years and everyday i’m in my gym or out on the field doing whatever activity the kids are doing. just the other day i was racing little 60lb kids to the top of the ropes here in my gym.

in a previous life i did a lot of running. i used to do 5K’s and 10K’s all the time. I also (gasp) did a half marathon once just to see if i could do it.

This will surely go down as one of the most epic videos posted on T-Nation.
So many stereotypes will be destroyed.
That said, running is for crazy people, much like hockey and golf.

I believe you.
I was a track & fielder before I took up running and THEN lifting.
I was even doing the occasional run when I was weighing 280 lbs.

don’t get me wrong… i’m no runner. i got big so i didn’t have to run anymore. but i can still get up and go if i need to. i still “run” on a daily basis with the kids but i don’t throw on a pair of booty shorts cut up the sides to my junk, sport a cool head band and camel pack though.

I think your idea of strength is retarded. Besides the fact that 315 squat/deadlift for 10 isn’t anything big, your concept that all powerlifters are in poor health is moronic at best. There are some people that just aren’t ever going to be decent runners yet may be much better at other activities.
Bicycling here (on and off road). Even when I was a 145 I would get ankle and knee pain from too much jogging. Now if I try to do it, I just start hurting in about 15 minutes of it on concrete and have to miss a workout sometimes to let things heal so I just stopped since there’s no good reason to do it. For reference, I’m 190-195 atm.
The crossfit one is junk. That would mean I had an advanced level in Bench Press after 12 months lifting in my 30’s. You shouldn’t been an advanced anything in life in less than 12 months.
