So I'm Injured

Basically I play rugby and am injured at the moment.Been out for about 4 weeks and will be out for another 4 or thereabouts with an 18cm haemotoma in my left quad.

So it’s bad enough not being able to do squats and deadlifts due to such a limited ROM,but what really pissed me off is I can’t do any fitness work.I can’t cycle, row, run, even power walk with this fucking injury. The only thing I can do is swim.

Will swimming, combined with,I’m thinking, alot of skipping, keep my conditioning at a high level?I should point out that I’m shit at swimming and can only go for around 50-75 metres at a time without taking a break.

Or does anyone have any other ideas that I just haven’t though of?I’ve tried upper body complexes aswell but I don’t have the muscular endurance for them,I play in the front row so I’m used to doing lower reps for power and explosivity(if that’s a real word).

Skipping/swimming sound like good ideas. One thing is if the skipping will load up your quad, possibly prolonging your downtime? I dunno. Make sure to keep your diet tight, especially now that you can’t workout as much due to the injury. You don’t want to come back and have and try to regain your cardio AND shed any fat you might have gained.

Good luck and hope you get back out on the pitch soon.

Ain’t it better than nothing?
Diet is even more important now than ever for you, also, like Therizza said.

Sorry to hear about your injury and good luck with your recovery. Even though you may not be that good at swimming it is probably the best cardio for you as it does not stress your quad. It is better than nothing along as it does not interfere with the recovery.

I’m in the same boat. A nondisplaced fracture of the femur. Any thoughts on ramping up the upper body work with less rest to keep conditioning? Ie. circuits of pushups, pullups, etc.

I may be able to bike at least, but that’s never been a good source of conditioning for me the way I do it.
